FL Non Maxidot dash photos?

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any photos of a dash that hasn't got the Maxidot display?

Just curios as waiting for delivery of mine that doesn't have and wandered what it would display and how?

Brilliant!

Wouldn't it be so funny if it did actually come from the dealers/factory like that though! hehe

Bloody hilarious Nick - thanks for reminding me

On the FL models there is virtually no difference.

They both have the same white dot matrix display, it is just that all of the functions are not available for selection when you don't have maxidot.

On the earlier models, the dot matrix display replaced the LCD display and improved the look of the dash significantly.

A bit - not significantly - IM(exceedingly biased)O

Yes, SIGNIFICANTLY

Damn, I need a tag :D

I'm sure when you have it fitted you will start singing its praises ;)

That looks a trillion times better than the pre-FL one. :)

I'm not, so I won't (see amendment to sig) :P

Will a FL dashpod fit easily on pre FL models ?.

Given that the dashboard is the exact same, i would say so.

Unless you've got the SKC code with a dash pod from a FL car, then your going to have to seek someone with some knowledge of these situations (cough *Shark 90* cough).

Given that the new pods have a 7 pin SKC code leaves things a little harder to crack, but im optimistic that it will be cracked shortly :)

No a facelift dashpod will not fit a pre facelift model. They are the same physical shape, but the connectors on the back are very different. I guess it could be done, but you would need to know the pinouts for each pod so you could modify the wiring loom to match.

Oh right, i stand correct

Could the maxidot thing simply be unlocked on an FL that wasnt ordered with it?

Cant see them going to all the trouble of using a very similar display and it not simply be software trickery.

is it possible? would be awesome, i got the normal mfd in my fl octavia, thought the new mfd with the fl octavia aint that bad to look at, only lacks the maxidot options:mad:

The display may be the same but the electronics may be separate and I would imagine you would also need the steering wheel switches and probably extra sensors.

Hope I'm wrong though and let us know if you find out differently.

No. Although they are now both white on black, the non-maxidot one is a segmant display. Maxidot is a matrix display.

You can work the Maxidot without the steering wheel switches by using the right-hand stalk, but it is a bit of a pain (IMHO).

I must admit that even though I went for Maxidot on my new car, FL vRS, it doesn't seem to add that much to the car. With the old dash it improved the look of the dash, as well as adding functionality. Now it is just the functionality.

I guess because I didn't option the Sat Nav, AUTO lights, bluetooth, etc. there are less additional options available for selection by the Maxidot menus.

I have set the doors to autolock, but there is not much else to set-up or that I want to change. I could have the audio info on the dash, but prefer to keep the trip info.

Any comments?

It's thanks to the useful posts I'd read on here pre-purchase, I made sure the car I got had Maxidot! :)

Mine's preFL... I religiously used to have trip 1 MPG showing before I got a Columbus. Now it's mostly on Audio simply for the amount of music stored & the ease of track skip/select options via Maxidot/RH-stalk. Navigation instructions in front of your nose are an absolute Godsend too!

Would hate to be without it...

I will have to try loading up a SD card, and have a play around with the audio.
