SD Card-Bolero

Featured Replies

Here's the text from my Bolero manual - even the "not" is in bold type !!

Well, in spite of my Bolero owner's manual kindly informing me that the unit will NOT recognise SDHC media, I can now confirm that it does perfectly

Whilst I'm very pleased about that, I'm also very annoyed to think that Skoda has provided such misleading information - yet again.:thumbdwn:

Don't sound so surprised... the half dozen or so posts in this thread told you it would!

Yeah but you can't always believe what you read, just ask Mr Skoda

Can anyone help me with which file formats are supported by the Bolero.

Is it limited to mpe, wma and so on or does it support apple formats too ?

Does not play WAVs. Works with MP3. Not tried AIFF or WMA TBH.

MP3 and WMA to my knowledge...

Steve

From the manual:

"WMA data (Windows Media Audio) can also be played even if the copyright is

additionally protected by the DRM procedure (Digital Rights Management). Such

WMA data is not supported by the unit."

.......make up your mind Skoda!

Going back to 'do SDHC cards work' from earlier... another quote:

"SDHC (“Secure Digital High Capacity Card”) and MMC

(“Multimedia Cards”) measuring 32 mm x 24 mm x 2.1 mm and with

a capacity of up to 32 GB are available.".

Both quotes from >>this<< manual! :D

Well at least the word "NOT" in my manual appears in the correct place grammatically - mind you, NOT is NOT needed since it is NOT applicable for SDHC cards on the Bolero.

Best thing to do with that manual is to burn it - or NOT ?

The best thing to do is ask on here, and get the feedback from people who've actually tried it

So please, continue to do that :)

I don't think it will play aac, or any Itunes protected formats either.

It proves to be that way but really it should not be. Fair enough if information is missing or not made clear. When the owner's manual specifically states that a certain item is not compatible when in fact it is the exact opposite is just not good enough and totally misleading. We've had similar experiences of inaccurate information on the facelift concerning ESP, Maxidot, Hill Hold etc. After all, it is only a facelifted model and not a new one - perish the thought.

It really is time that Skoda provided accurate basic product information on what is, after all, an excellent range of vehicles.

Maybe it would be useful if members could write a few posts of what SD Cards they are using (SD, SDHC etc), How they are filled up (one folder or multiple folders) How much they paid and Where they got them from.

Simbo has already linked to a 16Gb SDHC from Play, that I previously worked - so you have a guaranteed card right there

It's a hi-speed (Class 6 IIRC) from PNY and it was £17.99 delivered. A bloody bargain if you ask me. I then have individual folders on there.

Steve

On the manual issue, that's one to take up with Skoda UK. You're preaching to the converted here :)

Maybe they should pay members of the enthusiast community to write their manuals for them? They'd be more accurate and contain better English, with grammatically correct sentences :D

I already had an Integral 4GB SDHC grade 4 - it came with a USB card reader and cost about a tenner. Now I know for certain that it works on the Bolero (apologies for any doubts, blame Skoda) I will invest in a16GB if required.

Great!! :D ...unfortunately my dash doesn't allow for 19" rack mount kit!

For use in the home you chocolate teapot :D but I left myself wide open for that one.

I went to purchase a 16Gb SDHC card today from Play.com they dont' seem to have much in stock, anyone got a link for a 16Gb SDHC card below £20? I am currently using a couple of 2Gb SD cards at present.

Could someone please explain the class system (as I understand the higher the number, the faster the card?) and what class cards are suitable for use in the Bolero etc for music playback.

Thanks :)

Thanks Simbo

Getting my calculator out, a 16GB class 2 card would take around 2 hours to write the data to, with a class 4 being twice as quick :)

Sounds ideal for my Black Sabbath collection :D

... now I just need to work out how to get my CD's into this newfangled mp3 format

added stuff

Just to chuck my two pennuth in: I have just finished transferring some of my CD Collection onto a Western Digital USB 320Gb Passport Drive. So far I have transferred some 3,000 tracks MP3 192 kps, it has taken 15 gb.

This all sounds very impressive, but, if you tranfer this amount to a 16gb SD Drive (let alone a 32gb), have you thought how long it would take to read into your SD Card. My current thought is to buy several 4gb SD Cards, currently ASDA have these on offer for £7.99 instead of £15. Just a thought.

At a guess people shouldn't forget Mini and Micro SD cards as most of them come with SD adapters.

Dont know if this is of any use, but I use a 250g hd with the MDI, containing about 21g of music and it boots pretty quick (couple of secs if that). Also as far as format compatibility, through the MDI at least, see list below. This was copied directly from Skoda's literrature.

Supporting formats on external devices:

- MP3 - M3U

- WMA - PLS

- OGG - B4S

- Vorbis - ASX

- AAC - WPL

Please consider that files with a copy protection (e.g. m4p) can not be played

The PNY 16Gb SDHC card works a treat in my Bolero, in my mates brand new Golf GTI it does not. Not sure what type of player is in that, very similar looking to the Bolero but with Sat Nav, SD, USB etc.

A version of the RNS 510 in your mate's Golf by the sounds of the description? Or a Columbus unit in Skoda circles...

Yes, these don't support SDHC, just SD upto 2Gb. Although from firmware 2664 onwards, I think there might be SDHC support, but not 100% on that.

Steve

You might want to use the Panasonic SD format tool, it would seem Windows doesn't format fully sometimes with these cards but the Panasonic on does.
