Possible new order - VAT free and discounts

Featured Replies

Hi all,

We (probably) all know that there is a VAT free deal right now, and also 24 months interest free credit. If I was to order a new car tomorrow (vRS TDi as it happens) and the car wasn't delivered until (say) 1st January, I would miss out on the VAT free deal, correct?

That makes me think there must be loads of people holding off ordering, it seems a bit of a lottery to me, your car might arrive in time for the end of the year at a significant cost saving, but if it's delayed, you could be financially punished to the tune of 17.5% (new rate of VAT post 1st January 2010) and lose the 24 months interest free?

My car will be 3 years old on 1st March 2010, but I would be tempted to bring forward the purchase of a new car to benefit from the discounts available now, but it seems that it is a long shot to get the car built in time:confused:

Anyone else in the same boat?

Skoda UK have recently extended there VAT discount and interest free credit offer to encompass all VRS's ordered before 31st Jan 2010.

So they will discount by either 15% or 17.5% depending on when the car is delivered

If you ordered a new VRS today, it is unlikely to arrive this year

Typically delivery times seem to be about 10 to 13 weeks

What may come about however is another price increase before 31-1-10

We have just had one on 1st October

Aha! So the important factor is not registration date, but order date? That puts a completely different complexion on things!

So the worse case scenario is an extra 2.5%, still, not as bad as I'd hoped. Thanks :)

No  You will not have to find this 'extra' 2.5% Skoda will cover this

In my case I've got it at the old pre-increase price and if it arrives in January I will not have to pay the extra VAT. Its all good

Even better thanks :) It's just that the dealer implied that the discount was at risk somehow. I trust this particular dealer, I have a long standing relationship with them so perhaps something was lost in tranlsation.

Just in case anyone needs more information Skoda Stays "VAT Free" On Orders Taken Up To 31-1-2010: Honest John's Best Deals

Škoda has announced a range of offers that will benefit customers for all of Škoda’s five model ranges.

First' date=' Škoda is continuing its “No VAT” offer on all Fabia, Octavia and Roomster models, despite the government’s plans to revert to a VAT rate of 17.5%. Participating retailers will offer the savings on all [b']orders [/b]for the relevant models taken up to 31 January 2010 (equivalent to a 14.9% discount from 1-1-2010).

its not really VAT free..its what they market it as but on your invoice the VAT is still there, the money off is listed as a dealer discount, so they ust just be subsidising the dealers that little bit more come january

it worked on me anyway regardless of how they word it!

Yeah, realise that, ultimately it's the good old 'cost to change' that is the only important factor. But the good thing about this VAT free deal, is that it's from SUK (as I understand it, and not the dealer), so that is where the negotiations start from, so no reason I can't get more off.

Just read your message again FTM, if it is a dealer discount, no wonder I was being told that it was somehow at risk?

One of the dealers I spoke to in my travels to get a test drive in a vRS, told me that the VAT-free (equivalent) deal was being funded partly by the dealer and partly by SUK. He claimed that the dealer element was 6% - and that is why he wouldn't give me a further discount. And that is why I ended up going via Drive-the-Deal.

Has anybody bought recently whose dealer matched the DtD prices?

According to my dealer the vat free deal is now on until March 2010.

I can see me going in tomorrow armed with a Drive the deal quote.

Yep I have. The difference was all but negligible but I did get the use of a 'stock' car for use between my old one going and the new one arriving.

If you do..I'd be grateful if you could let me know how you get on.

Which dealer was that (and I'm assuming by your post you had a p/x..did they give a realistic valuation)

I got my dealer, Progress Bedford, to get within £250 of the DtD price and I got a reasonable price for my Focus ST in P/X. Happy with that

In effect they gave me a discount of 5.3%

Yes, the dealer is part funding the VAT off promotion but they still have something left to negotiate with :)

I went in today and unsurprisingly my dealer couldn't get that close, but they are great to deal with so that isn't too off-putting.

I used a DtD quote and following recomendations from this forum it was matched by a dealer in Mansfield (Rainworth Skoda) without any haggling. They have had quite a few orders this way it appears. If you're prepared to travel to collect your car give them a ring and ask for Jeremy the sales manager.

I've been to the dealership and it's big and new.

I saved about £4300:thumbup:

What have you got to lose other than hard earned cash!

I had to haggle a little..........

I dealt with Steve at Rainworth, knew him from his previous dealership (Gordon Lamb), He is fair & honest (well almost, but I had to say that as I know he reads the forum sometimes).

No complaints.

I spoke to Steve yesterday re build dates, seems like a decent bloke, very helpful.
