oil change disaster

Featured Replies

I have a problem, i changed my oil and filter today in my 98 toyota avensis, i know this is a skoda site, i used to have 3 if that helps.

i put some oil in the new filter seal, put it on and did it up by hand, as per manual. filled it up with oil and started the car. BIG problem, oil ****ed out somewhere from the back side of the thread that the new filter went on, turned the car off to see what happened, i cant see anything but oil!!

Any ideas?

Never mind, i found the problem, the rubber ring form the old filter was still on the car! couldnt see the thing very well, must have slipped down a bit and caused a gap big enough to lose about 3 litres of oil in seconds.

Good job you didn't drive it without noticing the leak.

lesson learnt there, always wipe the seal surface on the filter housing before putting the new filter on
