Rattly glovebox

Featured Replies

I really dont want to bother a dealer with this, as its a bit petty but... please is there a cure for the rattly glovebox on a Fab 2? Its coming from the top glovebox and isnt the lid. It rattles when cold and will stop after about 10 minutes, or if I place my hand inside it or on the passenger airbag cover.

Take to bits and wedge in blue-tak. Reassemble. You can't see it afterwards. Worked for me, but isn't exactly professional :D I seem to recall another thread saying dealers will swap it for a different one, can't remember specifics though.

I have had a new upper lid put on. I said to the dealer that the rattle was coming from the top of the dash near the air vent. Mine still rattles, so I will go back to the dealers.

When you say take to bits, all I can see is two screws inside the box but the whole thing appears to be part of the dashboard itself? Or, do you mean the airbag lid?

Why on earth they cant build it right in the first place I dont know:rofl:

It is annyoing. It's the only rattle in my Roomster unless you're travelling on a really bad road surface. Since it appears to be so common, I guess it's a design flaw rather than an assembly problem.

I had this problem on my Mk1 Octy.. I stuck a couple of small adhesive pads on the inside of the cover so they acted as a 'buffer' which cured it..

Yes, but this isnt the lid, its inside the box... anyone know how to get to the rattle please?

oops, sorry. I'm still half asleep this morning. Did you buy the car private or from a dealer? if so I would take it back to them and ask them to sort it which they should do.

i have a rattle on mine some where on the passenge side behind the dash or passenger foot well it sounds like a loose rivit and is driving me round the bend i have taken everythink out of the glove box tighted up every torx screw a even taken out the pollen filter but it has made no difference has anyone got any suggestions ( dont want to sound a bit thick but where is the roof sunglases holder ?)

Sounds like my rattle! I dont want to go into the dealer, itll go like this... "sorry sir we couldnt find the rattle but weve replaced the lid which isnt the issue!!!!" And so on:rofl:

If only someone could tell me where this common rattle is coming from and how I can get to it and fix it, that would be fantastic:thumbup:

mine does the noise too. it sounds something sort of ploppy with bumps in the road. I still have to take it out and fix it. I think it's probably some wires or hose going in between the glove box and the dash that hits one side and the other when you hit a bump

I had a rattle which I thought came from the glove box but turned out to be the seat belt buckle on the passenger side hitting the tunnel.

Well, I got the glovebox out today so tommorow will see if the rattle is still there. I cant see anything obvious thats been rattling around so assume it has to be the box itself as its made of a natsty hard plastic. At least if its something inside the dash I can now poke about trying to stop it rattling.

Well... its not the glovebox after all :wall: its the airbag cover. So, have booked it into a dealer for a look, hope they can sort it out.

Dealer fixed it, was the airbag lid and they have inulated the area around the airbag... car now feels brand new again

Probably a silly question but does the passenger airbag cover just clip in like the air vents etc? I don't want to remove it and the airbag go off!!!!
