Exploded tyre yesterday, replacement cheap?

Featured Replies

RAC and AA also state in their terms that they won't help you with a puncture if you don't have a serviceable spare... at least this was the case 12 months or so ago!

Tyre weld also won't help if you managed to tear a huge gash in the tyre! Remember a friends tyre completely eating itself on a dual carriageway, would of been impossible for anything to repair the bugger lol

yh wierd that most new cars such as civics only come with tyreweld you have to pay for a spare daft init!

Now then the law states that if you have a spare then it needs to be roadworthy however there is no law stating you must have a spare but if police search your vichle it is frownd upon if you dont have one and they can fine you with some off the beaten track offence if they are reali mean.

Absolute nonsense. The police are bound within the regulations set down by the road traffic act. If you are going to post information regarding the law, please get your facts straight, and don't post absolute drivel. Just what the hell is "some off the beaten track offense"?

i used rongipedia 4 that one soz.

anyone know the precise law governing such things.... surley there cant be one as its not an mot fail?

Its legal to carry both a buggered tyre, or not one at all. They're not checked as part of an MOT. Carrying a buggered tyre only becomes illegal when you decide to put it on the car when one of your good ones goes pop :)

at least thats my interpretation, I definitely can't find any law stating otherwise and the highway code doesn't seem to mention much.

Personally, I think you'd have to be mental to drive around without a decent spare. Looked at tyre goo before, but it will only help with minor punctures

well that clears it up soz 4 makin u angry mog:( how is the morris anyhow?

Going back to the question on top of this page about speed rating. The Continental or Michelin tyre itself is W or V speed rated so is perfectly safe. The speed restriction has been discussed on here many times with no specific answer. I has been thought that it is a steel wheel and the rest are alloy, also they maybe different makes of tyre on the car (directional and non-directional). The 50 limit is Skoda's safety get out clause if anything happens.

The 50 limit is IF the tyre is directional on the wrong wheel

Previous answer above it is illegal to have an illegal spare, but not illegal IF you DO NOT HAVE A SPARE
