About March/April 2010 I believe, with 1.2tsi at the same time. 1.2tsi can't be much later as now in Golf as well as Yeti, and in Polo from new year I've heard. Looks like all 1.6s will be soon superseded.

I don't like the interior of the current Fabia so this new face lift should be to my taste.

The interior isn't going to change much which is a good thing as it is far better put together and ergonomic than the Mk 1

Can't say I agree on the basis of the Roomster I had as a courtesy car, although that was mostly the materials, which might be better above the '1' spec...

I thought it was going to change, that is a shame. Will have to see what the new 1.2 engine is like.

The 1.2TSI will be a cracking engine for the Fabia. Totally different league to the old 1.6.

It is possible that a lower powered version of the TSI will also replace the 1.4 16v engine.

As for the interior, a total change is unlikely but I am sure it will be updated somewhat.

I don't think it's that bad, but there is a big difference between the base spec and top spec ones. I have a Roomster Scout and reckon the interior on that is pretty nice bar a couple of weak points.

My brother has got a Fabia II 2 and I have had a few fabia/Roomster courtesy car in the past couple of years so I know what it looks and feel likes, I was hoping for a interior like the new Yeti.

Little chance of that I think. The Yeti is in a totally different price bracket and it's interior is probably a lot better than all the superminis on the market.

.

1.2 TSI will replace 1.6 16v, but the only 1.4 TSI will be the vRS.

You mis-read... there might be two 1.2 TSIs (85BHP and 105BHP) to replace the 1.416v and 1.616v non turbos.

The new Audi A1 is getting two different states of tune for the 1.2 TSI.

Do you think the new version will be more expensive?

£500 or so, model-for-model probably

Dealer told me only the front bumper gets changed, along with the grille! Not sure if it was a bluff to make me buy now, though. saw piccies of new one, albiet with mis-coloured bumper and thought it looked worse!

Can't see why they would make it cheaper so guess it will go up in price... they have still been plugging the VAT free price too but I think that will end soon PLUS VAT goes back to 17.5% soon, making them dearer even without a price hike!! As for the happy scrappy scheme, I think you could haggle a good dealfrom them without that so if your car is worth more than a thou, sell it privately and get a good deal by walking out if they can't help!

Fabia (and Roomster) facelift should debut at the Geneva motorshow and probably will be on sale in the UK from around mid year.

It seems like virtually the entire engine range will be replaced bar the two 1.2 HTPs which will probably get a power boost. New lineup should be:

Petrol:

1.2 6v 65BHP

1.2 12v 75BHP

1.2 TSI 85BHP

1.2 TSI 105BHP

1.4 TSI 170BHP (vRS)

Diesel:

1.2 TDI-CR 75BHP

1.6 TDI-CR 90BHP

1.6 TDI-CR 105BHP

Same engines for the Roomster expect no vRS!

Where has this magical 1.2 derv and lower spec 1.2 TSI come from?

The petrol engines will most likely be:

1.2 12v

1.4 16v

1.2 TSI

1.4 TSI vRS

And the vRS will most likely have the 150bhp spec of TSI, same as the Ibiza Cupra.

The Ibiza Cupra has the newest 180BHP version of the 1.4TSI, thats even more than the Golf GT TSI, This list seems to be the engines the New Polo is getting. The Fabia is still on the old platform so It may not get some of these newer motors, but Im hoping for the 1.2TSI and DSG badly! The 1.2TDI is found in the Mk5 Polo Blueline

Until it all comes out from Skoda though it's just guesswork unless someone has some reliable sources on this info?

Doesn't matter that it's the old platform, especially as the latest platform is fairly similar anyway. This will give the Fabia a much needed midlife boost, much more than a normal facelift.

I'm fairly confident that list will prove to be accurate, but not all of the engines may come straight away.

1.2 TSI with 7 speed DSG (as per the Yeti) should also be available :)

Sorry! I meant the FR - The vRS will likely be the same spec level as the FR if it has any hope of under cutting it on price!

Mk5 Polo? Isn't it up to Mk8 now? Mk5 is 6N2 chassis (the one with the 1.6 16v GTI). But I did not realise they had a 1.2 derv...

Think there is a lower powered 1.2 TSI which is certainly going in the Audi A1 accordin to all reports so would be good if it replaced the older 1.4 16v. Only thing is I think the HTP engines loose the chain and have belts instead to bring emissions down. The 1.2 derv its the one found in the new polo bluemotion (its the 1.6 cr with a cylinder chopped off). Although I wonder if the Fabia will still keep one of the 1.4 PD engines e.g. the 80bhp with 119 co2 emissions which could be priced lower than the new 1.6 cr dervs.

I think all the 1.2's even the new derv are Skoda designed and built, they now just need a 6 speed manual in them all to bring emissions down.

I doubt the fabia is going to get any new engines this year. The facelift is abominable and clear proof that VAG want to keep Skoda cheap and (east european/india) cheerful and not to tread on VW polo toes.

The only changes will come about from euro legislation requirements.

As for ending the VAT free offer - can any manufacturer put their prices up 17.5% overnight in a market plummenting like the temperatures in Britain this week and expect their sales not to drop to near zero?

The VAT free offer has been around as long as DFS has had a sale on......

Have you seen the facelift? How can you say it is abominable when they haven't released pictures?

Regarding emissions regulations, you are correct. Especially regarding the diesels as the current PDs do not meet EuroV regulations.

I think you're also correct about the VAT free offer - expect that to be continued or replaced with another offer after the end of January as Skoda UK shift their stock of pre-facelift Fabias.

Only thing is I think the HTP engines loose the chain and have belts instead to bring emissions down.

Also the latest ones are quieter and more refined. If they do give them another power boost the 12v in particular will be a great little cheap base engine for the Fabia range

There are many photos around e.g. here

Its basically a new front bumper in the way yhe Mk1 facelift of 2005. It will no doubt hide further cost cutting as was the case in the 2005 update.

I believe insiders refer to this kind of revision as a "mid-life update" rather than more accurately "cost cutting exercise".

That's not the facelift, that's the pre-facelift car running the front bumper for the RS.

The facelift will have a new front bumper, wider and lower front grille and probably new headlights. I think they are working on making the front of the car look wider than it is in order to make the car look a little less "bubble car" and geeky.

The facelift should be more like this, but probably with new headlights:
