Shark Peformance TFSi and PD Review

Featured Replies

Wrong because there's a capital letter there or wrong because it's not proper quattro? Got any pics?

Before you ask I have owned a proper quattro.;)

I've owned a 'proper' quattro - it was a total money pit but fond memories of the flared wheel arches.

Quite an exclusive club I would think, ex quattro owners?

EDIT: just clicked your link, see what you're getting that. Does that qualify as a 'proper' quattro Ian? ;)

I just specced an S3 up to £39000. Yikes.

We're getting mixed up between the car and the technology here. By "proper quattro" I'm referring to a car with a longditudinally mounted engine and a Torsen diff, rather than completely fake badge engineering quattro which is just a Haldex coupling. And I think H was referring to the same thing, but I could be wrong!

Not in my book.

Out of curiousity, how does the mapped passat perform compared to the mapped audi?

Just to throw a spanner in the works they have started putting Quattro badges on the S3 which is wrong in my opinion.

They've been doing that for some time, and the Haldex'd A5s (3.0TDi for example) have the 'q' badging also

I nearly bought a 2002 A3 (8L) PD130 'quattro' - and that had the badging on the back of it too...

The A5 is not Haldex Steve, it's Torsen. The 3.0TDi is only available in longditudinal format. Only the A3 and TT (transverse) use Haldex.

Ah right, yep makes sense - fair play. So it's just the pretend 'quattro' in A3/S3/TT that should be stopped from using the 'q' badge then :)

back on topic though, GET IT DYNO'D NOW!!!im off to a dd roller at 2pm. always gtet nervous before hand in case it highlights an issue, lol

Completely different to drive. Off the line the quattro wins it hands down. The mapped Passat and the standard quattro with a rolling start, the passat would just have the upper hand.

Now the quattro has been mapped it would leave the Passat trailing in the distance. Was there anything you wanted to know in particular?

Yes! Although the newest incarnation of Haldex in the S3 is a lot better than it's predecessor.

How much you paying for a one-off RR run though Simon?

I'm sure Dan can wait 6-8 weeks :)

has any one got any details of this dyno day by the way?

Not a bad price that, for a one-off.

Dan - no, not yet - I'm still in initial stages of organisation with Awesome, as they've got some RR staffing issues at the moment. A thread will pop up in NW meets when I get somewhere, but I'll give you a nudge as well, as I appreciate you're not likely to keep a close eye on that section, being on the other side of the hill ;)

Update: Had the map on the A4 for a couple of weeks now, absolutely chuffed with it, far better than the CodeRed map I had on my vRS. I used to think I was suffering with fuel cut on the vRS, the power used to die off above 6k, the Shark Map pulls cleanly into the red  its took a few hundred miles for the best of the map to appear.

Can't recommend this map enough to any 2.0TFSi owners, i've tried maps from Revo (Golf Mk5 ED30), CodeRed (vRS TFSi) and RICA UK (Mazda 6) and i've never had such a transformation in peformance with just a remap, same goes for the Passat too, So your PD owners have got no excuse either :p

Glad it's going well Dan :D

Got the RR day off the ground with Awesome too, for next month - see the NW meet section and put your name down
