Yeti comes 4th in COTY 2010

Featured Replies

Yeti is placed 4th out of the 7 contenders for the Car of The Year Award behind the Astra, Toyota IQ and the Polo.

Full details of the voting here: http://www.caroftheyear.org/voting-grid/2010_1/coty

The huge disparity in the English judges votes is interesting (one scored the Yeti 10 points, another 2 points) and probably shows how polarising some cars can be.

Given some of the odd ball or rubbish winners in past years (1978 - Porsche 928, 1979 - Chrysler Horizon, 1982 - Renault 9, 1989 - Fiat Tipo, 1992 - Golf 3, 2002 - Peugeot 307) it's perhaps a bit of a relief that it didn't win!

Considering what an oddity the Yeti really is for the vast majority of the motoring public, it seems like a very good placement for the Yeti to be right in the middle.I am embarrassed at the Danish voter selecting the C3 Picasso with a 10 - double the nearest voter and 10 over many. None of the French voters were higher than 2.

In the commentary from the voters, most were very complimentary about the Yeti, but felt that the time should favour smaller and more fuel efficient vehicles. Reasonably so.

Typo. Addition.

How many old pieces of crap are on the roads now with a faded car of the year sticker, does anyone actually take any notice of this?

I think like that too !Talbot Horizon, anyone ? Thought not.(off topic - are you called "Giles" too ?)

oh i dunno...a nice sunbeam lotus (JPS Player colors) wouldn't disgrace my drive if you're giving it away!

I noticed that the of the judges that gave the Yeti a 0, four did not comment. I wonder if all the judges drove the Yeti? Or did the 0 come from no experience of the car?

More off topic , yes I am called Giles as well.

Yeah I'm not too sure what the point of COTY is?! Nobody (in this country anyway) seems to care!

I'd be interested in a car which won an award for reliability/endurance though. Something based on fact rather than an opinion.

I wonder how much VW had to pay to win.......

The only consolation I suppose is the best of the Polo range will be Skoda powered - 1.2TSI. Bet these dim witted judges didn't think of that one.

How do you equate:Steve Cropley: "but very expensive in UK. Buoyed by their success, Skoda seems to have started forgetting about affordability as one of its main planks."andPhil McNamara: "It offers phenomenal value for money"....tom

I think Steve Copley needs to learn there is a difference between price and value for money!
