How do I back up messgaes from a nokia N95?

Featured Replies

I'm giving my old N95 to someone and want to take everything off it.I've managed to move all my files to the memory card and also save all my contacts onto the card.

How do I save all my text messages on the card/PC? I've played around with the Nokia PC suite (not used it before) but I don't where it puts things

Set your messages to be stored to the memory card. If you backup everything in nokia suite as well, you can elect to restore only parts of a backup to another Nokia.

Im pretty sure the PC Suite creates a back-up somewhere on your computer - which you can then re-upload to another Nokia device in the future.

Not sure whether it allows you to view the messages on the PC itself - is that what you were looking for?

If you want to make sure everything is off the phone before you pass it on, some of the mobile phone recycling sites give you data deletion instructions. One example is http://www.mazumamobile.com/mobile-data-delete-tool/

I guess its just some kind of factory reset code they give you, so you may find it elsewere - or even in the phone handbook if you still have it. The latter method avoids a lifetime of spam from aforementioned recycling companies!

That's what I was trying to do. I've moved over to HTC so restoring to a Nokia isn't much good. I'm not too bothered about a full data cleanse just deletion and picking the factory reset option. I'm just giving it to someone, doubt it's worth anything to the phone recyclers

With PC Suite, you can export the lot into a .csv then delete 'em all in one go... do it for sent & received messages.

How? I'm a bit short of time

This one won't be worth 85 quid, lol. It's still fully functional but looks a bit of a mess, battery cover held on with tape, side buttons worn off etc.Playing around with lifeblog which seems promising

Ok, looks like problem is with PC not me. Its taken many attempts to to get the PC to open the messages.Click on yellow envelope which brought up a "Messages" explorer window. Eventually it has brought in all my messages but no options in this window's menu to export. Best I've got is copy/move to folder so they are saved as .vmg files on the PC but would prefer a single spreadsheet file woth them all. No reference to export in the helpfile.Lifeblog looked promising but it stopped with "System Error" about a quarter of the way through each time.

Click on one message, then CTRL+A (select all) then File | Export...

Seriously, I don't get that option in the menu.I've taken a screenshot but photobucket seems to be down too.

Well its too late now

Not sure what's happened with the software. I installed it not long after I got the phone but never used it properly. Don't know if was due to being an old version or not installed properly but at least I have them saved in some format even if not easy to sort. All deleted now along with contacts and done a short code *#7370# reset which has done a cursory delete of everything even if its not permanently erased - nothing risky on there anyway.

I trust the phone websites about as much as I'd trust that car buying site or one of those post your gold places. Fine if its in perfect condition but any excuse to knock a bit off and they would and once you've sent your stuff to them, you're not goign to get it back are you? If I was inclined, a new phone cover off ebay would sort it out but having seen the N95 > N95 8Gb fail on here, I'll give it a miss and pass it on to someone to make use of - he just wants a phone with a better camera rather than the one he has and mistake or not, I've given him my word. The only downer I have about it is that my son (under 2yrs, I've had the phone longer) loves playing with it. He's not seen it for a few weeks but picked it up last night like a trusty old toy, working the slide like a pro. Somehow my new one even though its streams Youtube properly and he can work the touchscreen already just isn't the same to him :(

My 95 wasnt that good condition, but still bagged £90 from Mazuma ;)
