Curtain Airbags?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

just recently picked up my 1.4TSi Elegance and was wondering how to check whether the car came with the curtain airbags as ordered?

Thanks for any help

There will be a little airbag badge on the centre pillar and the rear pillar.

I don't think I have one of them!! The dealer said to me that the airbag deploys from the A-pillar only!!!!

What does the badge look like? Is it high up or low down.

Thanks again.

If you check your spec inside the service book it will tell you what's been fitted. Just use the online decoder at :- http://igorweb.org/equidec/Default.aspx and it will confirm or deny what you're after

Thanks for the link johnboy. I'll check it out.

If you have them, you will have a badge on every pillar. It's a legal requirement.

If no badges, then likely means you dont have them fitted.

I've checked the B & C pillars, but there is definately no airbag badges on them, just on the A pillar.

I've checked the website that john999boy recommended and put thecodes from my service book in. The following line seems to be it.

4X3 = Side air bag front with curtain air bag

Just not sure now. Is there anyone out there who knows the definative answer on this one?

Anybody else got the curtain airbags??

Thanks again.

I ordered curtain airbags on mine, and queried just this with the dealer - he could not help me much.

My codes decoded to show the build had them, but I only have a badge near the top of the A-Pillar.

I'd be interested in a definitive answer too.

I have the option fitted. To cover the bags there are revised mouldings on the A, B and C pillars. These are deeper than the non airbag cars for obvious reasons and they have a small plastic "AIR BAG" badge at the top of the front surface.

Before the FL, curtain airbags were in every pillar to cover the whole side of the car.

This pic from the main skoda site suggests the same is still true

I'd be onto Skoda if I was you

Hmmmmmmm.

So can we say that there is no A Pillar badge without curtain bags?

And are we to understand there used to be a badge on all pillars?

On my Pre FL Scout - AirBag badge on A, B & C pillar and all are covered in fabric

Any chance you could decode your, erm, codes to see if the build codes match?

I agree looking at that picture, it looks like there are 2 seperate airbags.

I have just looked at the L&K picture, that comes with airbags, and whilst you can see the airbag badge on the a-pillar, there's nothing to be seen on the b-pillar.

My car looks very similar at the b-pillar as well, in that, I'm not sure where they would integrate a curtain airbag with the adjustable seat belt taking up most of the pillar above the seat.

The plot really seems quite thick here!!!

Is there anybody without curtain airbags in the FL, that can confirm they don't have a badge in the pillar ?

Perhaps there are others with a FL Octavia with curtain airbags, that can confirm how many badges they have?

Many thanks again to all.

Hi,

I pick up my vRS next week and I have ordered curtain airbags, so I will examine the pillars carefully and report back!

Cheers,

Bob

I have 4x3 and only A-Pillar badges.

So who is going to ask Skoda?

Unless they now only need one gas canister to operate?

I recall an image where someone had changed their aerial, and when they removed the C pillar there was the SRS system and lots of warning stickers.

I have a FL Elegance Estate with Curtain Airbags. There is only "Airbag" marked on the A posts, nothing on the B or C posts.

However I think it is okay - look at the pictures in the FL manual, page 180-181:

Octy ii FL Manual (The download is 20Mb)

The 1st picture shows the position of the curtain airbag (head airbag as the manual calls it). It goes in an arc starting at the base of the A pillar, running up to the top of the A post, along the tops of the windows then down the C post.

The 2nd pic shows it in the deployed position - it looks like one piece covering all the the front and rear windows, inc the rear quarter light.

I'm going to see if I can add curtain airbags to my order tomorrow, mainly just to get the fabric A, B and C post covers instead of plastic. I've always felt they look ever so slightly low rent.

the fabric A, B and C post covers instead of plastic

Great if an adult only car, but I hate to have to clean them after dirty, stickly little fingers have messed them up emoticon-0100-smile.gif

The irony is I ordered them precisely because I carry a little one in the car..... Hopefully the rear facing seat will keep his mits away from them.

Just did a confirm check on my ones wega3k. Like I thought, the only fabric on the pillars is on the a-pillar. The b & c-pillars are just a lighter coloured plastic to match the roof lining and a pillar.

Thanks for the pics gadgetman. Your's look different to mine definately. Interesting how the codes are the same though.

The B-pillar has a lot more space above what I take is your adjustable front seat belt. On my one, there is only a few inches to the roof from the adjustable seat belt.

I take it your car is a prefacelift?

Whoops. Changed my order already. Slightly disappointing.
