Some Octavia questions...

Featured Replies

Being a newbie I have got a couple of questions...

1. Will my new Octavia vRS come with an alarm system or immobiliser only? (forgot to ask the dealer  )

2. Where is the Octavia built?

1) No alarm :thumbdwn: but factory immobiliser

2) Skoda's are built in heaven

3) enjoy the ride. :D

No alarm then. Is the immobiliser any good? Or do most people go for an aftermarket alarm system?

Fortunately I have never had my immobiliser put to the test. As the car is standard (at the mo) I have not bothered with an alarm, although I would certainly consider a clifford if I were that bothered. I know of someone with a clifford that is blinding, it can even be programmed to start up at certain times on its own through a lap-top, run for a set time then turn the engine off again to stop the battery going flat when on holiday, or warm the car up before you go out to it. It also starts the car up from the key fob, it can tell you left it in neutral!!

When I mod the car I will probably get it belled up too. I would definitely opt for a GPS system if the right price.

If anyone nicks my car then I'll track them down and peel off their skin with a bic before tipping salt over them. They know this and so they leave it alone..

I'm sure there are plenty of helpful people on this site who have experience of alarms that will soon be posting helpful replies. Good luck. :D

The Imobiliser is Thatcham Cat2 approved, so good enough for insurance co's etc.

Fit an alarm for your own peace of mind. Clifford, Toad, Sigma etc etc..I have a Clifford Concept 500, and as a long-standing Clifford user i would recommend them

As for where the Octy is made, this one's a bit complicated if what i've read recently is correct...

Up until this summer, the Octavia Bodyshell was built at the Skoda plant in Mlada Boleslav, Czech Republic. These bodyshells were then shipped off to Skoda's "Specialist Vehicles" division at Vrchlabi (sp?), also in Czech, where the RS, L&K and 4x4 models are made. Other Octavia models were finished at Mlada Boleslav.

I read an article suggesting that there was to be a change-around during summer 2004, with the Mlada Boleslav plant taking on production of the new Octavia, and Vrchlabi continuing with the old model, but i have no idea if this was correct.

There was however a major factory shutdown at the end of the summer, which seemed to cause considerable problems with supply of certain "old" Octavia models, so that report may well have been correct.

Thanks for the replies guys. Very useful

I think I will look into getting a Clifford alarm fitted when I get the car. Unfortunately, we do not a garage or driveway and the car will be parked in a residential parking area overnight.

I've got one of those Disklok thingies at the moment that I use on the Rover. The Rover is belled up but I think the Disklok acts as a very good visible deterent to start with.

So, it looks like my Octy will be coming off the production line still. I had heard they were running both models in parallel but was unsure if that was the main dealers way of not telling you that they have got a stockpile of vRSs sat in a warehouse somewhere

You can get a Thatcham 2 to 1 alarm system that uses the factory fit immobiliser and adds an alarm that takes the system to Cat 1. My insurance co. were happy with it. PM me for more details, I'll run a PNC check on you and if you are clear tell you the details ;)

So two new pieces of information gleemed this week, the WRC has not only rear lecy windows but also an alarm - the list is getting longer. And I still think the engine is tweeked.

Errrr Gaz.

The vRS has rear electric windows too...well the Octy does, which is more than can be said for the Fabia ;)

How much would it cost for on of these clifford alarms that starts your car? Which model is it?

Check with your insurance co before you fit an alarm, some offer reduced premiums depending on which alarm you fit. Also have you considered a tracker, at least that virtually guarantees you will get the car back should in get nicked. This is worth considering if you intend fitting expensive extras to the car or tend to leave valuable things in the car all of which wont be covered on your car insurance.

I know those insured with Liverpool & Victoria will know the company cover different wheels etc if specified but should the car be stolen the maximum pay out is the book value of a standard car

The alarm my mate had was a clifford Concept 300 ( a generation 4 model which isn't made any more). He bought as an add-on the "intellistart" which gives the remote start from the key fob, aswell as buying the "Cliffnet Wizard" box, leads and softwear which allows the lap-top to plug in to programme times and durations for the car to run when unattended. The generation 5 alarm is, i THINK, the Concept 450 with a few more standard extras than the C 300. But still it needs these add-ons for remote start etc. The "intellistart" with the lap-top software"Cliffnet Wizard" cost him about

I've got another question. I forgot to check on the test drive...

Q) Has the Octavia vRS got adjustable lumbar supports in the front seats? If so, is it only on the drivers side or both?

Both sides :)

Both sides :)

Superb

Well Jon said "The fabia is so small if you were carrying passengers you could reach back from the drivers seat and wind down the windows yourself just make sure you grab the right object". Spose you could make a buzzing sound for extra effect.
