regarding skid pans. I organsied one a while back for some members on here. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/62145-skid-control-270107/

edit just read the whole thread and noticed your sorted. Out of interest which IAM group you using? I used the Merseyside group.

Chester and East Clwyd group.

Getting back on to skidding, I heard last week that there were over 3 million accidents of varying degrees of severity during the recent snow and ice.

Sooner skid training becomes a mandatory part of learning and the test itself, the better.

I actually suggested about setting up and running a skid pan to an ex copper friend of mine, but it's fraught with problems, and would be extremely expensive apparently.

There is one in Liverpool, but it's strictly for Police only.

I am a skid car instructor and I would really urge everyone to have atleast one session in one.

Unfortunately I can't help you with regards to where to take the training but what I can do is tell you, as I'm sure you already know, it's money well spent.

When ihave people out training I tend to do a little of the fun stuff to start with but then really hammer home the importance on the training.

The question of skid training is an interesting one. I have had a couple of sessions at DDC in Exeter, and very enjoyable they were, too.

However, Devon and Cornwall Police have stopped all skid car training because all of their vehicles are now fitted with ESP. The problem is that if you start to steer into a drift the ESP will sense that the car isn't going where you are steering and kick in. This can result in an immediate and very violent crash because it is going to send you in the direction you are trying not to go. It's a case of technology that works fine in ordinary circumstances falling apart when you get to the edge.

Having said that, the most important thing about skid training is learning how not to get into one in the first place.

Rob.

p.s. to Mods, sorry to dig up an old thread, just realised when the last post had been made!

Honestly well worth doing it. If nothing else you then know how to deal with icy roads. Also going on and trying to do a 360 spin is fun as well.

There is a skid control training school at Goodwood.

I went there a few weeks ago and had a great time.
