Felicia air intake

Featured Replies

I intend to replace the air filter and box and put on a induction kit, however before i do so i need to know what to do with one of the pipes, highlighted in the picture below

That's the hot air feed from the exhaust, right?

Most people wouldn't bother with it, as hot air is less dense, so reduces power a bit. But it can help with running in cold weather. Most induction kits will have no provision for it.

It helps the car to warm up faster in colder weather but won't really affect the running of the car without it.

It just draws some air across the exhaust manifold into the air intake.

For the OP, yes that's a "hot box" feed pipe. If your car starts stalling out on you for no obvious reason when the weather is cold and damp, then you might have to think about fitting some form of hot air intake to fix the "carburettor icing" you're getting. That said, I've yet to hear of a substantiated case of carb icing on an injected car.

I would probably first ask myself if there is any point though tbh!

You won't see very much difference on this engine with an induction kit on it apart from more noise!

I have thought about it myself before but it's just not worth the expense and possible problems it may cause.

Just my thoughts.

the 1.6 engine will exist quite happily without that pipe on there and wont cause you any problems, but whatever you do, dont leave the crankcase breather hose un-attached otherwise you will have a hot oily smell inside the car all the time because the breather is right next to the fresh air duct for the heater

hi, im runing an induction kit on my felicia 1.6 the kit is off a integra type r ,im not runing any hot air feed but im running 2 cold air feed pipes straight to the filter .u do loss some mpg and there is a bit off a power gain from a filter but to get the most u need to do the exhaust as well!

Ref the breather, either fit an air filter (special ones exist, typically £4 or so from places that sell CAIs) or find a place to put a "catch can", and extend the breather to there with a length of rubber hose.
