I am trading in my Octavia VRS for the Fabia VRS. What will I miss? Am I making the right decision?

Yes but will I miss it!

will you chip it ?

I am looking the opposite way, trading my Fabia VRS in for Octavia VRS when the new model is released.

can i ask why you are changing? really depends on your reasons for changing wether youll miss something or not.

I love the Fabia VRS but since I became a granddad I need more boot space.

Climate control - have to play will dails in the Furby.

Wipe clean leather - how dirty does the Octy carpet get as thats the colour for the furby seats.

Fuel bills - more 'playtime' money from lesser fuel bills.

Fabia will feel much harsher than the octy.

We have one of each in our family so I'm unbiased unlike some.

If you use the boot space on the Octy, don't buy the Fabia. :D

So which one do YOU prefer, Andy, or is it a case of horses for courses?

Everyones going to say I've wussed out but to be honest I don't really have a preference generally.

If it's a long journey the Octy wins everytime on the comfort stakes. Ride is so much less harsh and more compliant.

For the silly squirty drives (through town/traffic light GP) I prefer the Furby.

I suppose it's a bit like having a sensible driving, fast car that bites you in the wallet if you play too much - the octy.

Then you have the little smoking demon to chuck around and not feel the economy side too much.

I'd buy either one again.

Yes Andy , you have wussed out :D ..........a very non com - commital answer ....................Ok , gun to your head , which would you choose as your everyday drive ?

I have driven a Fabia vRS , albeit only a test drive ..........and I loved the torque , I thought it was a great fun car , but I do use the boot space of the Octy and I doubt if I could live the light coloured fabric seats in the Fabia ..........and most importantly , I think the Octy vRS is a nicer looking car IMHO..........and no I'm not trying to start an Octy V's Fabia war ..................We all have differing opinions , which is good ...........it would be very sad if we all thought the same :D

Fabia is ugly as hell, but can't see the outside when I'm driving it.

Gun to my head in my current circumstances I'd have to say the Fabia.

In answer to why am I changing its a combination of

I need lower fuel bills

I need cheaper insurance

I don't need the big boot

I rarely need to use the rear seats

I am worried about

The seat colour

the fabia's looks

the service costs of a diesel

the smile I get driving the octy being a little forced in the fabia

Fabia is ugly as hell

It's 50/50

Personally I prefer the looks of the Fabia to the Octy and would love to do the swap (Octy RS to Fabia RS), but with a house purchase it's going to have to wait a little while longer!

OK... In my 2800 mile experience:

Fuel - about 45mpg combined

Insurance - below the big G for the first time in my driving life (not bad considering it's the fastest and most powerful car I've ever owned)

Smaller boot - fine for two people going away on holiday, or a big grocery shop, or even all the nick-nacks that a toddler seems to need when we're looking after our nephew

Rear seat - a bit of a squeeze for three, but not impossible. I'm 6' tall and can fit behind the driver's seat when it's set for me

Seat colour - is remarkably easy to clean. I treated them with some upholstery treatment when I got the car, and most marks come off with a damp cloth. Even the worst marks have come off with upholstery cleaner (and you don't have the funny meshy stuff of the Octy)

Fabia's looks - well I like them. Considering the design's nearly five years old now, I think it's aged well - especially compared to other cars of that sort of vintage, like the old shape Fiesta etc.

Service costs - don't know yet, but in a recent Autocar they had their 1 year / 15000 mile test results, and the running costs seemed much better than my old petrol Megane...

Smiles per mile - you've got as much torque as a Boxster S. Get the gears right, and you'll out-drag most things. 3-series are the best for a stealthy overtake or burn-off from the lights!!! :D

I LOVE MY FURBY!!!

Unless like me you attempt to take on an M3. Got away from him on a roundabout, he soon caught and passed (very gradually tho, must have been having a butcher's) on the dual carriageway beyond.

I'm also in the process of trying to sell my Octy vRS and buy a nearly new Fabia vRS...

My reasons are very similar to your's

Cheaper insurance ( after 2 x non fault accidents and 1 x Seat Leon stolen )

Insurance went skywards! So group 9 Fab vs grp 16 Octy..

Cheaper road tax..

As quick as my Octy in 95% of normal driving situations..

Better fuel ecomony,

Xenon Headlights..

better seats

quieter ( road and wind noise )

more compliant over normaL UK roads

Don't really need the Octy's boot space, and rear seats and carpet have hardly been used...

Downsides..

erm..

Lack of Climate..

17inch alloys..

thats it...

At the end of the day why pay
