Best remap for 2.0 TSI vRS?

Featured Replies

Once I get my 2.0TI vRS I'll probably have a stage I remap fairly quickly. I've noticed that Admiral barely want to increase my premium for a remapped car. whooohooooo!

So, I really like the idea of a switchable map, great for visits to the dealer etc, but what the flavour of the month?

Bluefin - Great pricing, but occasionally i read stories of the actual map not being that great.

Shark performance - New to the game? but seem to be getting good reviews and simliar good pricing to bluefin.

Revo - expensive ; even more so with switching module, but I'm not sure I've read a bad review. Requires a trip to a Revo dealer to install (I think).

any other ideas / comments? thanks in advance.

Sam.

having tried revo, code red and shark peformance I can highly recommend shark peformance. They also do a unit similar to superchips bluefin handsets.

I've wrote a review recently on the 2.0TFSi and PD170. Have a look through the first few pages in the octy II forum

Dan - I saw your review, in fact it was probably that which got me thinking about the shark map.

Revo enough said ;) .

You need to be careful with the new TSI engine as you may end up with an incremented flash counter depending on who you go with. :)

Personally Im not too keen on the revo map, compared with other maps i've tried the revo map gives you plenty of torque low down but then runs out of power towards the top end of the rev range which isn't much use in a front wheel drive car unless you like replacing tyres rather frequently. I was a big believer in upgrading the high pressure fuel pump till I tried some alternative maps and then fuel cut was no longer an issue.

The Shark Peformance products are an absolute steal for the money and should have something left in your pocket for another mod :)

Do some maps manage to avoid incrementing the counter then? if not, I guess I may as well not bother with something switchable if the dealers can easily tell anyway.

yes they do, a proper map resets the counter to a realistic number rather than increment it each time

A vote for DNA tuning here.

I'm very impressed and a good price too.

The flash counter is the least of your problems when the checksum will be different anyway, even when it's back to a standard map :)

@shark_90 - I don't suppose you've got any dyno prints from a vRS TSI yet?

I'm not too hung up on the flash counter thing. To be honest, it's just that I'm a perfectionist and if something can be done properly then why not do it that way ;)

I haven't dyno'd one yet no, not everyone's keen on having their new car put on a dyno unfortunately!

How do you (or any other generic map provider for that matter) go about providing a map without having put one on a Dyno? This is not a criticism; I'm just curious as I write software (for windows environments) for a living.

By tuning it on the road (better for real world conditions)

This is more involved for me than it appears , realistically what do want your car to feel like , i have a revo stg1 and am totally happy with it, however i had a different trial map and wasnt that impressed.

The revo "feels quick, in how it produces its power " and works for me , i like the instant low down overtaking power and dont need the upper rev ranges to be high , however its very expensive and not reuseable , so your effectively renting it , if i was looking to buy now i would be talking to shark without a second thought , particularly as he runs the car himself and is clued up to this car better.

I have driven a couple of mapped vrs and how the revo works is best for me , however everybody expects different results , a mate of mine drove my car after bringing a jag xkr over for me to have a run in and was seriously impressed at how my car felt , but its frankly too expensive for a single shot application and being able to carry the map to another vehicle at a reasonable price would swing it for me no contest .

Given Ben can tweek a map to a particular " feel" all the boxes are ticked.

Do you live near anybody that can take you out in a particular mapped car for comparison as each is different really.

Ben,

it looks like your STS boxes are locked to the ECU, much like the Bluefin. If the dealer reflashes during a service will I need to get you to do anything, or will i just be able to re-apply the map myself?

It depends what the reflash was for and therefore how much they've changed the map, but generally you can just reapply your map. If that's not possible, then it can always be dealth with via email, that's the beauty of the STS and other similar devices

Have to say I'm feeling a little gutted. Got my TSI Bluefined (Superchips) last week due mainly due to cost and the fact I could re-install the map at will with the hand held device. Did not realise that Shark also did a hand held device for re-installing standard map / remap as when required. Don't get me wrong, Bluefin is noticably quicker than standard and still excellent value, but feel my AMD map, (mapped on a rolling road) on my previous TSFI VRS was better? ( although I lost this map when a dealer had to reflash my ecu, hence now wanting a map on a hand held device) . It could be that as my TSI has only done 2k miles the engine is still a bit tight plus in the current weather conditions I can't put the power down except in 3rd gear or above, (even then it struggles a little to put the power down). My main issue is that I will later look to go to stage 2 and from what I've read this is where Bluefin definately lags behind. So I'll probably end up going shark for stage 2 but would probably want it mapped live on the road rather than a generic map as stage 2 cars vary due to different makes of intakes and exhausts. Therefore I now kind of wish I'd gone shark for stage 1 to begin with especially reading all the recent posts about Ben and Shark Performance.

Why doesn't the VRS come with a KK04 as standard then I'd have been really happy and would only need a stage 1 map (300hp :) )and left the engine mods at that!!

Thanks for the kind words, and it's a shame we didn't get the opportunity to work with you.

Even if you did come up to see us to have the map done, we can still load it to an STS device for you to take away with you
