Off-road

Featured Replies

Not sure if down hill support was intended for road use but I used it this morning while descending a steep hill covered in a dusting of snow plus being added too by a reasonable flurry.

Very impressive, Yeti descend at a very controlled 31 km/h with only steering input from me.

Anybody getting a 4x4 ; you should definitely consider the off-road button, excellent option for winter driving.

Sounds excellent. I just discovered yesterday that the Hill Hold also worked. never thought of it being a problem before, but it sure is slick what a little programming can do when you have all the hardware anyway.´

Oh, and I found out why snow is such a problem in England:

Did my first bit of minor off-road yesterday. Very impressed too!

Does the off road button also include hill hold then?

Hill hold seems to be a separate option at £80 and off road at £80.

Why would you buy 'hill hold' instead of 'off road'

Ooh my head hurts!

Excellent!

Good to hear that it works as it's supposed to :D

The "hill hold" for uphill starts works without the "Off Road" being engaged. A firm push on the brake pedal sets it and it works really well! The "Downhill Assist" is a function of the "Off Road" mode and only engages when "Off Road" is on.

Thanks terfyn

the off road also includes 'uphill start assist' wouldnt that do the same job as hill start.

never had a 4x4 before so all new to me, (mind you havnt got a 4x4 yet!)

Hi Dave,

Hill hold is separate to the functions of the off-road button; holds the brakes on for 2-3 seconds if you take your foot of the brake pedal when your on a slope, gives you time to move feet from pedal to pedal.

Start assist helps you pull away on slippery surfaces and down hill support controls the descent speed on poor surfaces.

By start assist (as in "offroad mode" ), I think they mean that you don't have to be as careful when applying throttle, because revs are limited to 2500 rpm. The throttle respnse is also alot "slower", I find it easy to kill the engine when offroad mode is activated. :giggle:

Thanks folks thats really helpfull.

Think I'll go for the 'off road' and carry on using the handbrake for hill starts (as I'm too mean to pay the extra £80.)

Cheers, Dave
