Vrs Diesel DPF ISSUE

Featured Replies

I have a vRS TDI 2008

A lovely beast and a joy to motor in.

It's 18 months old with 47k on the clock (had it from new).

The DPF warning light came on (done so a handful of times before) so did as the handbook said which cleared the light. But then shortly afterwards it came back and then the glowplug light came on and remained flashing. Then the engine management light came on and stayed on. Manual says that flashing glowplug light means engine goes into "limp home mode". So took it into to dealer who tells me DPF is clogged up and 105% saturated and at a dangerous level (risk of fire). It needs replacing at a cost of £1500 and is not under warranty.

Diagnostic check shows that filter failed to re-generate some 2500 miles ago so warranty is out of the question because i have been driving it in this condition.

But these warning lights only came on a few days ago, i can't drive 2500 miles in a week so my argument is that without a warning light how was i to know.

Has anyone had any similar DPF issues. I drive 90 motorway miles, five days a week so shouldn't that keep the filter clear.

That's rubbish. At 105% they could force a regeneration and you should be on your way again.

It's a shame you're so far away else I could help you with it.

There were loads of posts about DPF issues prior to the update of the site. I hope they're still there as it's quite an eye opener if you've not sucumbed to the DPF woes before. It's happened to me twice before, both times under warranty and fixed with out batting an eyelid.

Have you had the 26E6 ECU software update and exhaust sensor change applied to your car?

If not, then this is a known issue with this engine (I'm assuming PD) and you may be able to come to some arrangement with the dealer as you weren't notified of the issue and asked to come in for the fix (free of charge BTW) which takes less than an hour to carry out and would have saved you a lot of hassle. Since they did mine I've never seen the DPF light once and I do a lot of stop / start town short town driving.

Search these forums for 26E6 for more information, there is plenty of posts on here about it..

How come its out of warranty? I thought the warranty was 3 years / 60,000 miles but I may be mistaken

The DPF is not covered by Warranty as its considered to be a consumable item, in the same way that the Cat and exhaust system is.

when i destroyed my DPF on my PD170 Passat VW replaced it, I see no reason why skoda shouldn't aswell

In all fairness it was completely my fault

I had an identical series of warnings and it turned out to be a faulty temperature sensor in the exhaust.

I was told about the DPF/ECU update some time ago and isn't it supposed to lower the BHP from 170 to 150 or that's what i hear..

What's so secret that a PM is needed?

They can not say that it's not covered by the waranty because you continued to drive it when clogged if there is no indication that this is happened.

If this went to court then you would win.

I suggest a well worded letter to the effect that if they don't fix it under warranty then you'll be taking legal action , and then follow up on this if needed.

What have Skoda said about this?
