Power loss on VRS - possible issues?

Featured Replies

My wife's got an '05 VRS with around 55,000 miles on the clock and an AMD One Click generic re-map.

Performance wise, it's definitely lost some of it's sparkle, I've noticed recently that mpg isn't quite as good either.

Car was serviced (by a Skoda main dealer) recently and I have checked the air filter and it's pretty clean.

Any idea what could be causing the power/mpg loss? Could it be a clogged cat as it always kicks out a fair bit of soot when you boot it?

Thanks

Jez

I would put it down to the recent low temps to be honest :(

Air filters that look pretty clean, usually need changing. The 40K air filter interval is a joke, replace every 10K

MAF, often doesn't throw out a code, but is a favourite for power loss. After that boost leak or EGR flow problem.

Thanks mate. I've changed the air filter three times in 55,000 miles, but might try that again.

Boost leak is an interesting thought, what's EGR?

It's been like it for a while and cold temps should give more boost if anything.

Any idea what approx max psi a generic map should give?

Should hold around the 22-23 psi mark

EGR Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Controlled by a valve on the intake manifold, and prone to gumming up and sticking, or the diaphram sometimes breaks up. Vacuum controlled on ASZ engine, electrical on BLT engine. Also acts as anti shudder valve when you switch off the engine.

Okay - thanks a lot for that. It definitely feels lame compared to before, so will start my investigation!!

you also said it was recently serviced at a skoda garage? Are you sure they didn't do a "software update" and wipe the map out? that would explain things.....

also check your tyre pressure for your mpg
