And why didn't reclaim money from Tesco?

Because I can't prove that it was the Tesco fuel that caused the problems, as I said, it may be have been a coincidence, but it's my choice to never use Tesco 99 again... in fact, I don't put ANY Tesco petrol in ANY of my vehicles anymore, I've found they run much better on Shell fuel.

This is all just my opinion... you're entitled to put what ever fuel you like in your cars... that was merely my contribution to the debate.

There was a widely covered problem with a batch of Tesco fuel in the South East a few years back, Tesco knew about it and AFAIK covered repair costs?

I remember that, my ex-boss's car was affected by it... sadly it didn't coincide with my problems...

Ah right, ok :)

to be honest i use vpower all thetime even in my old 1.3 fiesta i felt it did run smother and the throttle was better but i noticed no real difference when on one ocasion i put in tesco 99 the only difference i felt was that i got a few less miles!

The vpower diesel on other hand makes no real difference in my mind!

All my familys petrol cars run v-power and so does my race car and they all feel alot more responsive!

incase your wondering how the high octane actulay works welll.... higher octane means higher stability and the higher the stability the cleaner the burn and the more powerful the burn this increses your performance and response however to get the most out of a high octane fuel you need to reset your ecu and upgrade your plugs and leads.

most high performance enginnes already have this so you dont need to worry as much

Petrol is the same basic thing where ever i tis sold. It comes from the same refineries more or less depending on where it is sold. The only differences are the additives that are put in to it at later date. Tesco will get its fuel from the same refinery as shell or any other distributer. If Tesco had an ongoing problem with fuel it would be in the the public domain with investigations by the authorities, their would be court cases and so on. Sure enough you get the odd person whittling on in many forums but their just is not enough evidence to suggest that Tesco have a problem. I can tell you that some independent outlets have had problems, I have had bad fuel from an independent. That could gave been just a one off, it could be a single contaminated delivery tanker or garage tank. That does not mean that all independent has a problem.

As I said earlier just put the recommended octane rated fuel in your car, their is absolutely no advantage in putting a higher octane fuel in a car if the engine does not require it. Most cars today do not need 99 octane some older cars may do, that is cars from the 70's and before mainly. Just read the information on any knowledgeable site.
