1.8 TSi first impressions

Would agree with that, tried it for the first time today!

Yes I have found that too, though when you do get it right it flies off the line much to the surprise of a Mini Cooper S owner who was not expecting a "normal" skoda to shoot off like it did.

Its not that its lacking top end power, more that there doesn't seem to be any point in reving too high as its at its best in the mid range - maybe it gets a new lease of life at the high rpm's I've yet to explore?

I don't take it up the revs either - I feel that if it doesn't need it, why do it? You get to legal limits so quickly using only 3 or 4K revs!

Though a totally different concept, it puts me in mind of my first ever quick car - a Mk 1 Escort by Superspeed of Ilford (showing my age here) . It was the Lotus Escort but fitted with the Capri GT 3 litre V6. A lump like a lorry engine, but so much torque and power for the car size that it beat the E type Jag to 60 mph. No revs whatsoever but no complaints about performance (for those days!!)
