Roomster 3 Wheels

Featured Replies

I would love to meet the guy in Skoda who advised to put low profile tyres on the Roomster, ........ remember its a MPV not a sports car ( even though the 1.6 can shift!) with the recent cold snap and the snow. The tyres are NOT up to the job. Having just had the front two replaced , the grip is shocking!

I was out in the snow and i turned a corner but my Roomy would not go round but continued to do its own thing. Bang in to the side of a parked car......Ford Fusion both doors smaked in.....Roomy cracked bumper, craked headlight , front wing damage.....

I spke to a guy who also has a Roomy 3 and he will not drive if the weather is bad, he does not trust the tyres even in the wet.....

Any other Skoda Roomy owners having problems...

I'm running factory fit 17" 205/40/17 on my Roomy and no problems thus far.

I'm sorry but I have to question:

1. Whether driving style suited the conditions if turning a corner resulted in loss of control and a bump. It's an MPV not a 4x4

2. Should the journey have been made at all if conditions were that bad.

I have found the Roomy 16's to be more than adequate, in fact it's been very good in the snow.

Sounds like you either have poor tyres or a tracking issue. Can I suggest Falken 912's as these have been very good in all conditions.

I can suggest the ContiPremium Contact 2's. I've now got these for my Fabia II and are noticably better than the standard Dunlop sp sports, they're one of the quietest tyres I've had.

yes journey WAS done in order to get HOME from work ( you would not expext that the centre of Manchester to be not gritted.

no loss of control ....im police trained to drive in adverse weather, speed i was doing was 4mph.

Also been in contact wth Skoda dealer who advised me that they know that the tyres can de dangerous

4 mph... caused this....?

Sounds like loss of control to me. BTW, I am police trained too

The factory fit Bridgestones which is what most of them came with are not really that good in any condition especially not at the £90 a corner they usually cost. Just to put this into perspective, over the last 10 days I have driven over 700 miles in all sorts of conditions and have found the Rommster with the 16's to be brilliant in the snow, slush, ice, cold, grit, wet etc. I found my Fabia with the same size wheels to be shockingly bad. The difference is the tyres. ;)

Which tyres did you have fitted?

I had real trouble with half worn conti premium 2's last year, could hardly get the octy going in 1 inch of snow on the flat  - now have goodyear optigrip and they have been ace in the snow and ice.

As many have said I think your problem is tyres not the car/wheels etc

i've never experienced half worn conti premiumcontact 2's in snow but i've no problems in the past few days in snow/ice. Perhaps it was just that patch of snow under those road conditions on that particular bit of journey/road and angle when you experienced problems driving your octavia last year. are u comparing new/;ess worn goodyears with half worn conti cp2 on the same bit of surface and weather conditions.

for what i paid i'm very happy with mine.

Not had any problems with Bridgestones on my roomster in snow. ice or wet.

Can anyone tell me why low profile tyres are used on any vehicle?

I have 225/40 18s on my octy2 which are almost like rubber bands around the wheel, I have had no trouble getting about in the snow and actually made it up 2 hills where other cars were failing.

Hi Decron, what sort of tyres do you use on your Roomster please? Mine still have the standard 16" with Bridgestones which I find good in both wet and dry but I'd like the best when I eventually need to change them.

Thanks

Keith

The tyres fitted are the dreadfull Bridgestone......no loss of control, just no control what so ever..i could not even turn the wheel.

Also off note i could not even drive up the incline toget to my house...all other cars managed this....as i said no grip on the Bridgestones...and the tyres are just 2 weeks old!

But thanks for all the coments including the sarky ones!

no loss of control ...

So the Police training means that the end result below was planned then? :S

In my book the above would constitue a loss of control and some dented pride.

Quite agree. On the low profiles the grip and the ride were very bad indeed, I had them all replaced with standards and everything was much improved. I cannot recommend the low profiles as they serve no purpose and can be dangerous in bad weather.

Lolz!

I have to say I'm disappointed by the way my Roomie handles the slippy stuff.

My Schitroen Berlingo (standard tyres and no electronic wizardry) provided noticeably more traction.

But my old Allegro (standard tyres) would have run rings around both of them.

Progress?

mine has done well with only one exception tonight thin covering of snow over sheet ice on a slope

i opted for the upgrade that gave me esp, and lots of other letters as emergency brake assist

best thing is stick it in first or second and bring the clutch up slowly without touching the throttle and keep feet off everything and my roomy seems to cope with virtually anything

Of course it is. For the other 51 weeks of the year you have a far better vehicle.

Can't argue with that, mate
