heater not doing what i tell it!

Featured Replies

having problems with my 02 reg fabia's heater. today, it was totally boiling inside the car, and for some reason, even with the temp dial in the blue, it was blowing hot air. air-con on had no effect. turning the fan off and on again sorted it, but it did the same thing at least two more times before the journey was out.

any ideas, it is driving me crazy and making me way too hot!!!

Sounds like the common flap motor issue, sometimes this can be fixed by connecting the car to VCDS and running the flap through a cycle but I have had 3 of the motors changed now from the dealer.

what you could try is turning the heater dial very slowly from cold to hot, when you turn it you will be able to feel a click, stop at each click for second or two, all the way up to hot

shout louder........it might be a bit deaf B)

My Skoda dealer had lots of fun and games trying to sort mine a few years back. Generally it the motor flap.

isnt there a trick to see? put it in reverse and if the airflow noise increases your flap is fine if not then needs fixing! i fink that was the trick!:)

Thats the recirc flap rather than temperature control flap motor iirc.

OK, I'm slow maybe, but why does the noise increase in reverse? Does it go into recirc to prevent blowing exhaust fumes in or something? I've noticed it on the Furby and the Octy Scout.

Yes it does go into recirculation mode to prevent blowing exhaust fumes in. The change in noise is because air is no longer getting drawn through the pollen filter.

What is VCDS? Is it VAG-Com?

Is the motor easy to change if you DIY? (I can't remember if there is a guide). It is just my mothers Fabia sometimes suffers from this problem, the only problem is it is a intermittent fault and works fine most of the time.

Yup, VCDS is new name for VAG-COM (Vag Com Diagnostic System). I had some success running BASIC SETTINGS on the temperature flap on my 2000MY B5 Passat - but now, 6 months later, its stuck on HOT with the accompanying "grand father clock" loud TICK or is that TOCK!

As I said in the other reply, my 2000MY B5 Passat has this problem, but like you its stuck on HOT - which is acceptable/handy at this time of year - it was in the summer that this car first got stuck at HOT - which was not really very handy, so I ordered up a new flap motor - but ran BASIC SETTINGS and that sorted it so a while.
