Tapping into 1.9tdi fuse box

Featured Replies

Any idea how I can tap a spare fuse on my Fabia Comfort1 tdi estate to power new driving lamps. There are some "unassigned" fuses of the right value. I understand the circuitry to connect the lamps and thought it might be neater to use the box than an inline fuse before the relay. Can't see how to get into the fuse box though. Would also appreciate tips on where to locate the dash switch. (I do know that the lamps need to cut out when heads are dipped but I use narrow low-speed country lanes a lot and don't want to draw the extra power for the lamps when they are not needed). Many thanks.

PS just been through the door sealing bit, front and back. No sign of water now but am still steaming up! Very disheartening.

I find the easiest way to do this, is to power the new lights via a relay. That keeps the heavy duty wiring runs short, and in the engine bay. So new switch can be fitted below the centre air vents using a spare position on the centre switch panel. Run a wire from sidelight circuit switch to new switch, or from main beam circuit if you want them to go off automatically when you select dipped beam. Then a feed wire from new switch to the relay activation terminal in the engine bay. Wire relay to battery with suitable inline fuse, then wire lights to relay.

There are also remote control kits available if you want to keep wiring to a minimum.

Thanks MoggyTech. Any suggestions for feeding the wires behind the dash to the switch and/or through the bulkhead please?

Wire from normal light switch to new switch can be routed by removing the radio. Wire into engine bay is a bit more tricky. IIRC there is a grommet behind the glovebox you can use.
