Coolant drop

Featured Replies

Is a small drop in coolant level normal in cold temperatures (06 VRS)?

My car has the annoying coolant warning issue on cold starts, I topped it up with a drop of water to get back up to max level on the tank several weeks ago, but checked recently and it has dropped down slightly again. Also where are the sensor parts that people say to scrape clean with a screwdrive or similar to cure the coolant warning light issue? Is it the actually electrical plug that clips onto the tank or something inside that tank, as the inside of mine is inaccessible.

Is the level actually below the min level again? About 4 weeks ago mine dipped slighlty below the min, so I topped it up with some G12++ and its been okay since.

I'd say its probably just the cold weather, but if you top it up and it happens again could easily be a tiny leak?

No it has never been below the minimum, just talking several mm drop on the level indicator.

If its always above the min mark on the level I'd assume its probably the sensor? Not sure where the contacts are for it, I assume they're under the cap somewhere but hopefully someone else can help or you might be able to find it with a bit of a search

Hi, AFAIK the coolant sensor on a Fabia is inside the expansion tank and cannot be cleaned unlike Octavia's.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong?

Thanks, John :)

I've done a bit of searching on this, it seems that earlier Fabias had a different tank where sensor was accessible, later ones are sealed? Well whatever, it's all a common fault apparently and a new tank is cheap. Gonna get mine changed.

Just out of interest, do you have to replace the coolant when swapping the tank? Obviously needs draining :)

Good call. I'd be interested to know too!

just had my thermostat housing replaced. that was causing a loss of coolant on my vRS. might be worth looking at? just going on what the dealer told me.
