What make of tyres on Yeti's ?

What make of tyres have people got on their Yeti's ? Pictures I've seen have shown Dunlop's - is that what most have found ? I know a lot of Skoda's have Dunlop's - I certainly started with them on my '55 Octavia (and have stayed with them).

As a little addendum to my post about delivery of my Yeti S 4x4 110hp (ordered 9/10) - I still haven't heard about due date. Build Week was 50 (early December) and my dealer has said that delivery SHOULD be first couple of weeks in January - but with all this snow about (in Germany and the UK), I fully expect the car to be 'snow-bound' in either Emden or Sheerness (or some point in between !). Has anyone else heard about delivery dates for cars built around Week 50 (I know Sanqhar's car was around then ) ?

The CR140 4x4 I test drove at my local dealer a while ago had 17" Pirelli P ZERO ROSSO - pretty good tyre IMHO; I wouldn't be too chuffed getting the Dunlop or Goodyear on my car though as I don't rate them.

I have heard nothing either.

I was told by my dealer just before Christmas that my car (ordered 16/10/09) was at Sheerness. Remember that the delivery system shutdown for the same period as the factory closure (December 20 for 2 weeks).

I was also under the impression (not sure if this is correct?) that registration with the DVLA is done by Skoda rather than the dealer. If this is so and the Skoda staff can't get to work, this is another possible reason for delay as well as the weather affecting the delivery system.

I am finding it difficult not phoning the dealer, logic says as soon as it arrives he will contact me. None of this helps when the main problem I am having with my current (Scrappage Scheme) car (no heater fan) is made worse by the bad weather.

Pirellis aren't highly rated over on the Jaguar forums. The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2s I fitted to my X-Type were a vast improvement over the factory P Zero Neros in just about every respect. The XF is also on Pirellis, so I will probably be replacing them either with Michelins or Dunlop SP Sport 01s as fitted to Ruth's Yeti. By all accounts, that will be fairly soon as the Pirellis wear quickly on the XF.

Don't fancy the Pirellis or the Dunlops. Up here in the Lake District the tye of choice is the Goodyear Optigrip. Mind you that might have something to do with the amount of rain we have up here...!

Thatis very interesting, as I have Goodyear Eagle Supergrips on the car now, 215/60 -R16 winteer tyres and am considering 225/50 R17 Goodyear Optifgrip for the summer, just because the wet performanc is more important than all else.

The present winter Goodyears do extremely well and are very good on the dry as well - quite, responsive and predictable.

The Goodyear Excellence were fitted to my Yeti until I found they don't do ice and snow. While it was reasonably warm; dry or wet they appeared fine and I would probably consider them again for 'summer' use.

The tyretest.com user reviews give an overall rating between 1 & 6 (being the worst) as follows:

Dunlop SP1 Sport - 2.22 (worst performance 3.4 grip in snow followed by wear 2.5)

Goodyear Excellence - 2.19 (worst performance 3.3 grip in snow followed by wear 2.4)

Pirelli P ZERO ROSSO - 2.26 (worst performance 3.5 grip in snow followed by wear 2.9)

My Yeti has Goodyear Excellence fitted. They seem fine in the dry and wet and even in the snow and ice we have been having, they seem to cope quite well. Also, they aren't very noisy.

Obviously they aren't going to be as good as the winter tyres in the snow and ice but I'm hoping this global warming thing will soon pass and we can back to the real world climate... ;) Unlike The Plumber, the Welsh, Scottish and Scandinavian contingent, ruralish Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire shouldn't have to spend the majority of the winter months dancing on ice hence I'm not off to the tyre shop for a set of winter rubber.

My Fabia vRS ran Michelin Pilot Primacy all its life which lasted and worked well in all seasons so I may go down that route when the time comes for replacement. Best I have a look at TPs tyretest.com.... :yes:

Yes and No........

My reasoning for selecting the tyres with the best wet perormance in both the winter and summer selections is simply that in many years of driving, the times you are most likely to get into trouble at some speed is in the wet. On dry roads, you are not likely to be close to the adhesion limits and in winter snows, you slow down. I have seen most close calls on the German Autobahn in wet conditions, so wet handling is most important to my thinking.

I was just saying that their are meteorological similarities between these countries, we have loads of rain :rain: in Wales. the West Coast of GB is generally wet, while the East Cast is much drier. Ironically, where I live because their is less traffic and more rain than many parts of GB, the roads do not tend to be so slippery in the wet as any rubber residue is washed away. However, if I venture into an area that has more traffic, then wet roads can be very slippery. If in the unlikely event of their being no rain for a while, such as after a draught, the roads here are slippery in the fist instance, until sufficient rain has washed away the residue.

On country roads, I doubt that my driving changes much at all in the rain because friction is so good. I would be more cautious after a draught or on roads subject to more dense traffic. Also road surface construction plays a big part. One instinctively knows, that on some types of road surface in the rain is worse than other types of surface.

I also have the Goodyear Excellence and, following all the post on the subject, had a good look at them today. The tread pattern bears a close resemblance to the Nokian WR G2 as used by The Plumber with a wiping area on the inside of the tyre and the more normal tread on the outer half. Coincidence?

Hi Terfyn,

have the Goodyear's myself and having taken them off to fit the winters, I have noticed a least one has noticeable 'scar lines' cut into the tread after spending time looking of grip or sliding on the compacted snow and ice. Had a look at the Nokian's no such damage so far.

The inner tread of the Nokian although similar to the Goodyear (both are asymmetrical), does appear to have a more aggressive sawtooth pattern and obviously wider spaced tread blocks with additional 'sipes' for increased traction in the blocks themselves. Been very pleased with the Nokian's so far in the current conditions; worth the extra expense in my book.

Can anyone please confirm the correct size of the spare wheel? - as delivered.

My recollection is that it is a 195/60 R16 on 16" rims.

Noticed there has been a number posts & questions over the months regarding wheels. Therefore I have put together a guide in the Yeti Technical Guides section on all things Yeti wheels I can think of.

It'll have what ever they were given by the tyre manufacturers.

Usually they turn up with a truck at auto firms, and they use them with first to hand. SO this could mean one car had Michelins, and then next to hand is a set of pirelli's.
