Should i break my vrs?

Featured Replies

Hey people

Im currently having a recon turbo fitted to my 54reg black magic vrs. I have spent nearly £1000 on coilpacks, maf sensor, spark plugs, 2 recon turbos (as the other lasted 10 miles) and alot more bits and bobs.

The car has done 52k with fsh

It was category D damaged in 2006 but was fully repaired and had a respray

All new tyres

Interior is mint

Car is totally standard

I would be asking around £3300 due to the amount ive spent on the car but i had it up for sale a few months back and had 0 interest :S

But ive been told i can make more breaking the car. And i would be tempted to do this as i do have the space

What do people think on this??

Thanks

Dan

Why did the first turbo last 10 miles? I'd be more concerned with what caused that!

I will know when i get the car back in fully working order!

But when i get it back it will be up for sale or broken for spares

I bought another car and havent bothered the mechanic whos doing it, just waiting for the call to go and collect it

A friend had a pugeot 407 TDI that had an appetite for turbos, in the end the engine was written off and a new one fitted after the cause of the failed turbos was found. Basically the turbo was not being lubricated correctly because of low oil pressure, this in turn caused unrepairable damage to the engine.

The first turbo should have lasted a lot more than 52K miles, so I would be investigating why that one failed rather than fitting yet another recon turbo that could also fail just as quickly as you need to fix why the turbos failed before fitting another as it too will just fail. Check the oil pump is in good shape, and if necessary remove the sump and make sure that the oil pickup is not clogged up with crap.

The oil feed pipes were primed before fitting and the oil feed to the turbo was pressure tested.

Im kind of hoping as i havent had a phonecall or a bill yet that the recon turbo was faulty.

And yeah 52k is bad but the old turbo has FOD but the mechanic has basically checked everything on the engine and says its mint.

So im guessing time will tell

If you do break it mate and thedrivers front wing is good with no scratches Ill have that off you.

Jus PM me if you do decide to get rid that way.

I would like you to keep it tho and find the cause of the turbo failures as that is not normal.

all the best mate

Thanks matey :)

I have pics of the old turbo and the one that lasted 10 miles if anybody wants me to email them. As the damage is identical

Your car is not that old, I would say NO to selling it. as it sounds in good condition.

However if you still decide to break it up, I am after the stainless turbo charge pipe that runs across between the bulkhead and engine from the turbo and dives down

on the drivers side. Part number :- 06A 145 731 F

you no my view buddy your best bet to make money on the car is to break it full stop there is a big market for parts on these cars at the moment...

p.s call me if you wanna know more about prices of parts etc

p.s the dv arrived cheers bud

Sounds like you have already broke it

The vultures are already circling above the car..............................................LOL

I think i may end up breaking it but i want the engine running and to be fixed as thats what i will get the most money for!!

That price doesn't sound too bad until you factor in the Cat D.

Most people wont touch a Cat D car with a barge pole (because they are scared of what they dont understand). Id certainly expect to pay substancially less for a Cat D than a normal car, for exactly the reason your finding, their resale values will be substancially lower.

You'd have to lower the price to at least £2500 for me to even look.

I still feel that around 3k is a good price and is lower than what you would pay for a non damaged one.

The car is mechanically sound and had side impact damage and none to the front.

And plus i have reciepts for £1000 to get the car running correctly.

So i couldnt sell for anyhting less than 3k or i would be loosing money.

iv seen this turbo problem before with 1 ov my mates, never got to the bottom of it tho, he wrote the car off a few weeks after the 2nd turbo failed. but he also checked the pipes n pressures etc. and they wernt at fault.

if you do decide to break, il have ur front bumper....at a good price . .

pm me your number n price if u do decide to break, thanks.
