Remap - Non obvious gains?

Featured Replies

Seriously considering a remap for my 1.9tdi, I know it will accelerate quicker, possibly gain 3-4mpg etc, but are there other gains? For instance, if i'm driving down the Motorway doing spot on 70mph, I presume after a remap it would rev lower or would it be higher than the normal mapping?

Any other feedback or experiences would be appreciated!

It will rev the same, a remap doesn't chance the gear ratios!!

Ouch, Noob alert! lol :'(

I wasn't sure if the fueling would lower it or not, but thanks for the info.

Itll soot more when you floor it

But extra power and (much) more MPG are the big ones

Great! Thats what i'm truly after, but you never know what else can differ

As well as the extra power and improved fuel consumption, I found our PD100 revved more freely after it was remapped.

Hope it wasn't the cam belt.

No, but I found it doesn't need to rev as high to attain the same speed, which is where you get the extra MPG e.g. at 70 it used to rev at 3500, say, but now it revs at 3000.

This is on a petrol engine but it shouldn't be different on a diesel, should it? :S

Should be a quieter engine, and you can rev up to 5200.

Eh? To achieve this you would have had to change the gear ratios. Hence Mattcooper79s post.

See if you just jinxed it, I'm coming after you

Had mine remapped by R-tech, very happy with the outcome and the service provided by R-tech was awesome.

you end up with a more muscular feeling engine, more urge, more pull, smoother through the rev range, and a bit more willing to rev past 4000, so basically the power lasts longer, so you can (if you want to) hold onto the gears before changing up.

the biggest difference I found is the engine more tractable, so there's less need to drop down a gear if the engine speeds fall below 2000rpm.

My car ended up going from 115bhp/200lbs to 130bhp/230lbs.

also I noticed that on long long motorway runs, I'm now seeing (on the trip computer) as much as 59mpg whereas previously I only saw 50mpg

you will gain torqe so you will not need to change down in order to acelarate as much, will pull alot better
