Fabia Vrs Turbo Cutting Out Then Engine Light Comes On!

Featured Replies

Hi guys!

had my fabia vrs for a couple of years now and iv done a fair few modifications to it, but just the other day i was driving along and suddenly there was no power! just like someone had removed the turbo!! you put ur foot down and no go!! it runs but i think the ecu goes into limp mode so no turbo!! then the engine light came on!! so i pulled over and turned it off and back on and away i went and it was fine again!! it does this every other day now and its getting me down!! iv had the turbo changed to a garret hybrid about a year ago coz the old one went bang!! iv brought a egr power pipe but not fitted it yet coz i think it might be the egr valve??? wasnt sure what to do so i thought id ask on here!! if you could help it would be mint!!

also another problem!!

it all seems to go wrong at the same time!!!!

iv got a problem with the power steering and the battery/electrical!!

il start with the power steering, most mornings normally when cold il start it up and the power steering light comes on and the steering is really heavy, then after moving it from side to side or starting the engine again it goes, its doing it quiet often now, probabaly down the the cold weather!! iv read a few thinks about tilt angle sensor but wanted to check on here!! so if you could help that would be sweet!!

now the last problem!!

i went for a mcdonalds the other day and sat with my engine off but radio on and came to start it 10mins later and dead!!! so i had to jump it. now its does it nearly every time!!! i had a look on here and they say there are two wires underneath near the front left wheel that break so i had a look and yes they had!! so i had it fixed and the battery light came back on just before you start it so it had been fixed, but still feels like there not enough power and still sometimes doesnt start!!! iv had the battery checked and its fine, plus its only 1year old. iv had the alternator checked and thats fine, so i cant work out what it might be!!! starter??? connecting wire..damged??? not sure but i dont want to throw money away to not fix it, i dont mind buying a new starter for example if its a starter but if it isnt its about 150 down the drain!!

so any ideas guys would be great,

hope you can help me

thanks

Battery is on its way out by the sounds of it and could be the cause of all your problems. It may also be worth checking the voltage regulator, as that could be why the battery has gone west and explain the weird problems with the running. Get this done ASAP, a failed regulator can cause terminal damage to the cars ECU and other ancillaries,

If the battery went into deep discharge (which it did) it will be useless. As for the Turbo dropping out, a code scan should say where the problem is. Usually a boost leak, or sticking VNT which causes over boost and then limp mode.

as Mannyo says, it could be the battery going, but it could just need a good charge, not just an afternoons worth, but more like 24 hours with a good quality charger

a poor battery will also cause power steering issues due to the amount of current required to make the PAS work

for you turbo problem, sounds like an overboost problem, you really need to get the fault codes read, could be as simple as a pipe split

Hi

Ive the same issue with the power steering. Gone months with intermittent fault but no warning light on. On starting sometimes cannot turn then frees up. Just before xmas had it on startup and then couldnt steer car into parking bay at end of my 20 mile journey, then car totally dead and couldnt start.

Told it was my alternator not battery as first thought. Had alternator replaced and 2 weeks later in same position, back to solid steering so Iam taking to garage again tomorrow just hope I can drive it there. It could be ok in the morning possibly as it very intermittent.

The turbo cutting out and car going into limp mode sounds like you're maf tbh

My car done this a few days ago during the very cold weather as part of my BMC piping came away from the throttle body taking the maf with it. No turbo and management light on

Throttle body on a VRS? There isn't one.

get a battery fitted

The intake manifold bit. Just called it that for easiness lol

I had same problems. Test the battery and all seemed ok. This weather plays fun and games with batteries. Get a new battery and im sure these problems will go.
