Fitting universal rally mudflaps to a Skoda Favorit?

Featured Replies

Hi we have been modifying a Favorit into a rally look-a-like as you can see on my profile.

We've recently bought universal rally mudflaps:

We are having difficulty figuring out how to fit them due to the shape of the car.

They need to be fitted strongly so they don't rip. May need to make/buy brackets.

We've seen pics of favorit rally cars but can't see how they are fitted.

Can anyone help, have you done this before??

Thanks.

Wright Bro's High,

This is one of the things that I will consider doing to the Yeti as the normal type of flaps are really just cosmetic additions when living in rural areas. I had thought to try and come across conveyor belt rubber as that is what many 4x4 owners use. Purpose made rally material might be more attractive.

i have not used this stuff but I would have thought the material should be strengthened along its mounting edges. With long strips of galvanised steel or aluminium riveted along the edge sandwiching the flap. then this could either be directly bolted/screwed onto the wheel well at the best place. It may be necessary to make up some bracketing to bolt your sandwiched flap to. Some of the others might have better ideas and suggestions. Have you asked the suppliers of the rally flaps? Perhaps ask the same question on the sports and rally pages.

Or perhaps the Favorit,Felicia,Fun forum!!!

Or even the British Rally Forum?

Graham, have you considered using rally type mud-flaps like th bove on any of your cars?

Had them on the back of one of my old cars, but not on the last 2 Freelanders. The LR ones have proved adequate.

Personally I find they hang too low normally.

Currently at work in Ludlow....snowing!!

It has started snowing here also but only lightly at the moment.

I was thinking of mounting some across the back or just the normal place behind the wheels. I also wondered about something just in front of the front wheels to stop splash back over the front of the vehicle when going through standing water at speed.

By far the best way i have ever fitted them to previous rally cars is with alloy brackets like in the photo, it does require you to make a cardboard template of your bodywork so they fit snugly as shown:

Bolt the bracket to the wing (there will also be fixings to either inside the wheel arch or by the sill) and for ultimate durability attach the mudflap to the bracket with a cable tie instead of bolts (this way if you catch them on a curb etc the cable tie breaks rather than ripping the mudflap)
