VRS CR and VRS TSI

Featured Replies

Is there any way of telling the difference visually between a VRS CR170 and VRS TSi. (Facelift)

Any badges or different exhaust pipes?

As far as I am aware other than the tacho. being red-lined at 4500rpm & the obvious lump under the bonnet, there is no other visible difference.

It's certainly not the case over at VW with the GTI vrs GTD.

If you follow them quickly the CR170 gets closer and closer whilst the TFSI gets further and further and further away . . . :-)

haha like that :rofl::rofl:

+1

TFSI

You've got no idea what you're talking about. Derv is the future. Cue Babs saying it isn't...

The CR170 will get back in front when the other thing is in filling up a few times !! ( waiting for the backlash )

yeah but you guys have a big heavy noisy diesel engine at the front, instead of the light weight powerhouse in the petrol so your tractors would understeer into the nearest hedge at the first corner, leaving us to drive by looking well tasty

My massive bulk sitting inside the car cancels out the weighty front end !! I'm clutching at straws here.

good comeback allow me to think of a reply, its not exactly going to be a quip though as im to slow to reply lol

Not in real world driving if you stick to national speed limits - the CR170 wouldn't be very far behind the TFSi at all

On my CR170 vRS the red line on the tacho starts at 5000rpm. Just a minor observation. emoticon-0103-cool.gif

Bob.

Arn't the calipers different colours. I'm pretty sure its red for the derv and green for the Petrol.

Noooooo :) CR is not so noisy like old diesels ....

If you follow them quickly the CR170 covers your screen in soot whilst the TFSI gets further and further and further away . . . :-)

Fixed that for ya.

Nope, same colour. Green calipers were on ealry MkII vRS models - mostly petrol I guess, as the derv engine followed a bit later.

No soot we have lovely DPFs!

I didn't want a diesel without a DPF (unlike most people) because I don't like the smoke. I have not had any problems with the DPF on both of my cars (other than the recall on the PD).

I have a confession to make - I was going to buy the diesel version and had it all worked out in my head. Unfortunately I test drove the petrol version first and after that couldn't convince myself to do anything other than buy the TFSI engined version. I am not convinced the difference in power makes that much difference practically as far as day to day driving is concerned but I found the petrol engine suited my driving style more and felt more relaxed and capable at any speed.

...and you need to drive 14589456miles to recoup the difference in costs between the petrol and diesel ;)

You forgot the decimal point, that should read 14589.456 miles :D

No differences immediately obvious other than the tacho as someone has mentioned.

Proof of the pudding is that I bought my car from a Ford Dealer, 18 months old.

It was priced up and advertised as a TFSI. I went to drive it and it had 10k less miles than advertised and was a diesel. Needless to say it should have cost £2k more. Pointed this mistake out to the dealer, test drove it then ... bought it on the spot. :D

So I personally disagree about recouping the cost of diesels and remapped, I still get the same BHP as a standard TFSi and loads more torque B)

Plus it's still worth more than I paid for it 7 months on :giggle:

but you see you have just felt the need to compare you remapped diesel to a standard TFSI. I think day to day iesels make sense, but i dont really care about fuel economy, if i did, id have a diesel, but since i wanted to tune the car, and do alot of track days, petrol was the way forward for me, plus having loads of DPF issues when doing short journeys would do my tits in after a while.

...and a remapped TSI would wipe the floor with it :notme:

I'd be utterly astonished if there was any real performance difference on the road between a TFSI and a diesel, whether both were remapped or not.

Petrol MIGHT have a fractional advantage 0-60 but that's no use on the road. I would guess the diesel would slaughter the TFSI in 4th gear overtaking 30-70- which is what matters. And the considerable fuel saving of course

Id be up for some comparisons if any one has astage 2 TDI mapped near gillingham. although the torque will be pretty much even.

best person to comment on this TDI TFSI argument is Dan_the_v8man. hes had 2 TFSI car now that have been remapped, and also the TDI was remapped. in fact the TDI and his latest car were both mapped by the same tuner.
