VRS CR and VRS TSI

...and a remapped TSI would wipe the floor with it :notme:

You forgot the decimal point, that should read 14589.456 miles :D

You always need the stereo on when driving a diesel hard...

You've obviously not tried the CR then.

I don't think in real world driving there would be much in it. Off the line a petrol would definitely have the advantage and would be a better option for fun on trackdays. You always need the stereo on when driving a diesel hard...

Myself and Powermalc have both come from having remapped Focus ST's , which dare I say it, with just a DS remap would see off anything less than a tuned Stage 2 TFSI.

On a gallon of fuel , my VRS goes 50% further 100 percent of the time compared to the ST and probably 25 % slower 5 percent of the time. In 5th or sixth on the motorway, I don't think there is anything in it between the ST and VRS, as the torque output is similar.

well my car is much quicker than one of my work colleagues Focus St mountune 260(which coincidently according to magazine articles is a match for the RS). The ST is very peaky in its perfomance output, wheras the TFSI has a very flat delivery of power and torque in comparison hence why the 200PS is an even match for the supposably more powerful ST. Tuning wise as well, they max out on standard internals and turbo at pretty much the same as a stage 2+ TFSI.

i seriously reccomend you to try a tuned TFSI, id say its pretty evident that you havent, ive driven the diesels and id say you wouldnt have the ingear acceleration even even when both are standard(it would be very close, and if it was a case of using the gears the TFSI would definately have it)

Well I think I've now found out the only visual difference between CR and TSI is the redline on the rev counteremoticon-0148-yes.gif

Going onto to the other topics raised on this threademoticon-0136-giggle.gif

I have a Focus ST remapped with Dreamscience only to 270hp and 330 lbs ft and its bloody quickemoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

IMO very few cars will live with it in day to day road situations, the torque is easily on a par or better than a diesel especially with the Race+ map which has a real wallop low down the rev range.

However I am not comparing the performance with my new car (As per sig) I wanted a reasonably quick car but fuel consumption is one of the main reasons I'm changing, going from 30mpg to hopefully 50mpg and saving £800 a year.

At the moment I have no plans to remap my CR170. However I said that when I got the ST, I succumbed after 10 monthsemoticon-0140-rofl.gif

You so will ! :giggle:

The thing is, diesel nerds always waffle on about "in-gear acceleration", and yeah ok... it's gonna be marginally better. However, people who've bought the correct engined car are more inclined to drop a cog anyway, so it's a bit of a non-issue.

The TSI isn't exactly lacking in the mid-range torque any way, and has a high plateau of torque rather than the spike that derv has.

Another one! me too :)

I was actually astonished how quiet that engine is. Standing outside it and listening to it idling you can't tell it's diesel at all  . I have never driven one though, but for now i'll happily stick with my 325bhp TFSI monster

All due respect but i'd be surprised, the ST as standard, and with Dreamscience is far from peaky, never tried the monntune tune but never heard of it being described as so :)

I have driven several TFSI vRS, tho all standard and although quick, are nothing compared to the tuned ST - I'm really wanting to try a mapped TFSI and/or TSI :)

I worked it out to be 31831.24813miles based on a 2.874533842 pence per mile difference using the cars average mpgs for DSG estates and the average fuel prices of normal unleaded and diesel from petrolprice.com

But it reduces to 24454.54449miles if you use superunleaded which i guess the figures for vrs are based on and 3.741635836 pence per mile difference.

I can be a bit sad with excel.

This is just the fuel. So there are other difference ie servicing, car tax, what the cars worth when done. I would of thought the diesel is unlikely to be worse on these.

For me aswell I drive in france alot and then it makes a bigger difference.

I should also say I base on list price difference of £915 unleaded price 111.8 super price of 118.8 diesel price of 113.7 and petrol mpg of 36.7 and diesel mpg of 47.1

Hope this helps people and that my maths are correct.

The real world difference is £708 based on DTD prices

IMO I can see this also being the difference in say 3 years time with a P/X price

I also find diesel tend to do a better job of returning there mpg figures in the real life daily drive. May be its just me.

So with £708 diffence would be 18922.20491miles so we get closer. For me thats about 10 months the save the difference.

Admittedly I haven't. I did however try most of the ST's competitors before buying the ST. This included the Golf GTI, Mazda MPS, and Leon Cupra R. As the Leon is effectively a factory Stage 1, I would consider that to be a (mildly) tuned TFSI that I have driven. I still bought the ST.

I am not a diesel nerd. Diesels are always going to be a compromise for better fuel economy and tax breaks against overall power and refinement.

If you follow them quickly the CR170 gets closer and closer whilst the TFSI gets further and further and further away . . . :-)

Actually i think you will find that is utter rubbish

I would know because i've tried following them both - first of all i couldnt see a damn thing through the big cloud of soot coming out of the derv and secondly they both got further away when i became overcome with the carcinogenic diesel fumes and had to pull over B)

Ha ha fecking ha - the CR creates nowhere near as much soot as the bandwagon you've jumped on :p

Damnit man, my bandwagon runs on petrol!

I wouldn't have expected anything else :dull:
