Rear Fog Lights

Featured Replies

Simple question - are there one or two rear fog lights? My dealer says one but the User Manual refers, in one instance ,to "rear fog lights and in another instance, to "rear foglight" My screen showed the warning light for a bulb failure and as far as I could see, one rear fog light was not working. Any views please?

Like almost all other VAG cars, there would be 2, yet only one would be active by default.

The 2nd can be done by a member that has VCDS.

I'll have a look tomorrow and report back - it's dark outside now.... :S

Is it me or are we Yeti keepers seemingly obsessed by lights and tyres?

What is VCDS?

What is VCDS?

Think I am right in saying it's a program on a laptop so you can connect it to the car and communicate with it. Like the dealer has.

Used to be called VAGCOM or the older version was VAGCOM something like that.

TP

I have looked! Only one rear fog light is active on mine.

VCDS is VAGCOM (diagnostic system?) which is a program that can be downloaded onto a laptop which can then be plugged into the car and various things checked and switched on or off. I remember that one on the Fabia was the anti-hijack thing where the doors lock above 5mph or so (the Yeti does it as standard).

On the later Octy, as mentioned above, they were pre wired for two and it simply needed VCDS to enable the second one. Then iirc it rolled into a thread about it being unsafe to have two as they may be mistaken for brake lights.....

...i'd rather have two personally as I think the intensity appears differently to brake lights and I probably use my fogs for just two to three journeys a year!

Aerofurb: Mine also only uses one - the left one. I assume the UK would use the right hand one? Does the Tourist setting in the Multidot then change tem over?

My Monster does not lock the doors automatically - maybe a UK, Elegance or Safety option thingymigig?

FocuZtec: Mistaking the rear fogs for brake lights do not seem to me to be a hazard - on the contrary - keeps the tailgaters a bit further back. Same function as using your windshield washers when you have a MC 10 feet behind.

The door locking while on the move can be activated or deactivated via Maxidot from memory.

My Monster is at the dealer today for another go at rattles and reset of the wipers as the snow has thrown them out of adjustment. While she's there I have asked if it's possible to adjust the speedo and mileage settings to match 205/55 R16 tyres and if the opposite fog (bulb) is fitted can they activate it.

Will let you know the outcome.

Thank you for the answers above on the acronym! I would much prefer 2 fog light and 2 reverse lights!

Does it have 2 reverse lights?

It wasn't possible to do on my FL vRS due to Skoda fitting new contollers/modules so I guess the yeti will be the same.

The latest VCDS beta still doesn't see this feature either

Lights, lights, lights.... emoticon-0102-bigsmile.gif

Okay, having checked the single 'offside' rear fog light this morning, now I have to go out and check the reversing lights and rear fogs in Travel Mode (it's 'Travel Mode' on the Maxidot).

Nope, no swop over on the rear fogs when in Travel Mode. Can't remember if there is a bulb in the nearside light unit - I had it to bits to put the silver indicator bulbs in - I'll check tomorrow.

There are two reversing lights.

Now, if I get locked up and given a canvas jacket with wrap around sleeves and leather straps by my neighbours for being beyond slightly wierd, I expect you lot to get me out.... emoticon-0140-rofl.gif

I've got the yellow rotating beacon ready, White coveralls packed ( they will not notice the few gease stains) Helmet and face mask and "cufflinks" on the rady for yur recue. The Candy White Monsyer with the xenons flashing, Columbia on full Bass with some Handel or other on the SD should confuse them enough for your release to SMOC custody. TP might follow up as a firemarshhall in the red one to complete the picture.

Oh, what fun - please get yourself committed.

Got my Monster back.

Dealer looked into adjusting settings to match tyres and fog light activation as they have done with other models. No can do, apparently factory settings are pretty 'locked in' on the Yeti. Obviously Skoda are getting wise to either owners tinkering or the less scrupulous side of society clocking etc. :(

Rattles wise top dash stowage box is the culprit. Needs a replacement but there on back order, could be a few weeks, wonder if this is due to other owners with the same problem.

Remember Agerbundsen mentioned an intermittent creaking when opening the back hatch. As I have a similar thing they looked at that as well, apparently they say it's the centre brake light housing flexing; no fix. Not convinced that's it myself will keep monitoring.

TP

TP - you could try some silicone lubricant spray on the centre brake light lens, it might make a difference if that is at fault. Good news if the top stowage box is the culprit and cures the rattle.

Dash top stowage box lid was a common source of rattles on the Mk 5 Golf and the Yeti employs a simliar design. I shall look forward to my more basic Yeti with its lidless stowage box. Hope that they sort it for you.

Travel mode only works on headlights

As for dealers not being able to enable them, I wouldnt trust their view that skoda have 'locked in' these settings. When so many dealers cant even enable the DLR's on the new octavia, I'd put it to the fact that their software isnt compatable with the Yeti as not the version. Find a member with VCDS - which cant do lots of things the dealer software cant ;)

Thank you very much for going to the trouble of going outside at great risk to your personal freedom from incarceration into the bowls of the madhouse and confirming that the Yeti has two working interrogation lights!:thumbup:

I mean reversing lights of course

Having two reversing lights is good for me, it gets really dark here, that is wet dark with lots of hazards. It is not unusual in the country to have to reverse for hundreds of meters and slot into a half overtaking bay on narrow windy single carriage roads.

What no street lights? emoticon-0140-rofl.gif Reversing lights are very good. Same they're not Xenons though.... emoticon-0124-worried.gif

I remember looking at a Hella Catalogue a while back as I was looking for the best legal reversing lights that might be available for My Volvo C304 TGB 13 6x6 offroad machine. Many off road guys just fit any spot legal or not. Hell a I seam to recall do a Halogen Reversing light, I think that it is based on the comet series of auxiliary light it uses a 55W halogen bulb I cannot remember the bulb designator, Hi H2 or H3. I always thought that reversing bulbs had to be no greater than 21W, I doubt that a company such as Hella would make an error so perhaps an HID reversing Light might not be so fanciful! An additional manual switch would be handy for those tail gaiters.

Found the culprit and fixed it:

The boot lid has two rubber bumpers that slide in between two hard plastic bumpers on the opening. The rubber bumpers have a fairly rough moulded surface and stick a little to the plastic. So it is a stick-slip phenomenon.

Put a little silicone grease on the rubber - a little!!!- wait a few seconds, then wipe off the excess. This leaves you with a slick surface and no squeek - and does not attract crud.

Thanks Agerbundsen,

will have a look and try that myself; sounds a much more plausible answer than the dealers. :)

Like two tectonic plates rubbing together. You've solved it, well done.
