Mine's built!

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Just spoke to my dealer this week I have found out that mine's been built. I think I have about another 3 weeks before I'll get the car.

g

For your information mine was ordered on November the 11th.

I didn't ask for many options on the car so I'm hoping that it will not take too long for it to be ready ;-)

The options I ordered was

Flaps and mats,

Chrome trim for the boot and front

Rubber boot liner

Nets

That should be an afternoons work at the most....

I just hope it doesn't have the issues my Octavia has in this weather at the moment... If I have the traction control on my clutch plays up ;-(

Mind you in the snow it is best to have traction control turned off because it just cuts the power too early....

Kinda disappointed though not to have had the chance to try the yeti in the snow I've never had a 4x4 and driven in the snow so it would've been cool to try.

I must be one of the few people who enjoy the challenge of driving in the snow. It must've been all the years I lived in Wales ;-)

Least the current car I have has taken the worst weather I guess...

All the best

Jerry

Nice one - I ordered 7/11 - in theory it was built last week,.

What is the chrome front trim ?

There are crome inserts that fit in/on the false vents at the bottom of the front bumper. See page 4 of the accessories brochure My link

They look pretty cool.

I thought I'd seen some exhaust trims somewhere, but don't seem to be in the brochure ?

The 2.0 TDI 170 is born with two stainless steel 2-3/4 inch straight exhaust outlets with a rolled in edge, and a nice polite throaty humm over 3000 rpm.

No turned down Diesel stacks here :p

waiting for the magic thousand miles before i begin exploring my engine over 2800rpm....not long to go now though the signs are promising

edit: being completely self centred bar steward I forgot to congratulate jezz and pronounce that as a recently octy 4x4 owner i haven't had a moment whereby i've thought, "jeez i wish i had my octy".... the snow-monster really is that good!

Exhausts that point downwards can be a bit of a pain at my place in the hot summers. They blow about the dust that is on the ground and it can get everywhere. It is always worse at gateways. One gets out to open and close the gates and any exhaust blown dust ends up inside the car. Sometimes when driving slowly on a track-way, exhaust blown dust can engulf the car if a following breeze exceeds car speed. So backward pointing exhaust are for me are a benefit.

Err I have a confession at this point I ordered these things by accident and then when I saw the photo's then I thought they look quite

good....

The accident part was that me and the dealer didn't know if the silver undertray was standard on the SE and then it transpires it was

but they looked pretty good....In my defense the accessory catalogue didn't exist at that point ;-(

The accessories catalogue has been out for a long while but only on the international Skoda CZ web site My link

SUK took time to publish here, as that gave them an opportunity to chop out things they didn't want us to have. :(

The SE I collected yesterday had a bag of three nets in the back as standard. One for the floor, one small and square for one side and one long and thin to go across behind the seats.

I think the dealer threw them in cos they are listed as options but I will chack I'm no expert on this so thanks for the information....

I did get them with my Octavia to I don't want to pay for something that was free....

Can confirm the UK SE and Elegance at least are supplied with a bag of nets as standard. Not got round to opening mine still in it's packet in the boot. Also came with a litre of engine oil inside a resealable plastic bag.

There is a separate 5 piece netting set available in silver from the accessories catalogue (DMA 630 003 for floor without spare wheel; DMA 630 002 for false boot floor).

Photo taken inside the boot of demo car at Royce Roberts Hull, Sept 09

Also can get a net that can be affixed under the parcel shelf (DMK 630 002).

Not in the UK brochure so possible not be available here is a 4-piece set (DMA 630 001 for floor with spare wheel).

My nets look just like yours, TP - still bagged!

Not long now, jezzep! emoticon-0100-smile.gif

Took mine up to the parents today - M40, M25, A414 and A1. Filthy weather - windy and rainy. SM performed faultlessly - sooooo sure footed despite the abundance of water (and perhaps remains of road salt...) - really noticeable on roundabouts, not a claw out of place. 1500 miles now and occasionally up to 3000rpm - very good fun, especially with two big chrome rear facing tail pipes....

I bought some 'Rain-X 2 in 1 Cleaner and Repellant' from Halfords and gave the side windows a going over yesterday. I'm pleased to report that the side windows stayed clear of water today so view in the mirrors wasn't a problem at all in the rain. [The older members here may remember I found on my first rain and motorway journey that the water cleared off the screen by the wipers tended to cover the side windows in the rain obscuring the view in the side mirrors]

I remember! :giggle: All hail RainX

You will have a nice surprice coming once you are done with the pussyfooting around to break in the engine. There is a nice power sweet spot between 2500 and 3500 rpm - and unlike the PD engines, it continues pulling strong past the 4000.

Oh, and the taiil pipes are stainless, not chrome. Very polite bass sound too - not at all hysterical like a petrol engine.

...it continues pulling strong past the 4000.

Appreciate you're still being cautious with a relatively new engine, but just how much past 4000 do you think it will continue to produce useful acceleration?

Is the CR170 still red lined at 5000 (ie and no lower)? Do you think you'll eventually be able - occasionally and with some effect - to take it to the 5000 limit?

If so, then that sounds more petrol-like in my book. What I like about petrol is that I can put the car in 3rd at say 2000 and continue to rev in-gear to 5000 (and beyond, but actually I don't often venture into the territory beyond) all the while getting good to strong acceleration. If I knew that the CR170 had similar characteristics (and even if 5000 were the maximum limit) then that would convince me once and for all to opt for the CR170.

Maybe if there's no direct experience here with the Yeti then there's maybe some read-across from other VW cars with the CR170 engine?

Not Long? There's a question now how long now is the wait? i.e. how long is the shipping? Do they book the shipping slot whilst they are

making the cars. Do they produce RHD cars in one batch, book the slot transport them to the port where the freighter is ready. It is what we have to do

with our production....

Hi Jerry,

mine took exactly 3weeks from day of build to reach the dealer including about a week sat at the port in Germany (Emden) waiting for a slot on a ship. After it arrived in the UK (Grimsby) took 3 working days to arrive at the dealer. For vehicles destined for the southern part of the UK I believe they ship to Sheerness.

As a point to note Emden is the one of the main shipping port from Europe to the UK for cars I understand and VW have a factory close by building Passats.

I suspect that above 4500 there is no point in going further, but at that rpm, things happen so fast that you are busy shifting up that you have no time to look at the rev counter. In 6th, the 170 Diesel is happy from 80 km/hr all the way up. 0-100 km/hr, you barely get into 3rd, and you are past 100. I haven't ried to time it, but the stated 8.4 seconds feels reasonable. Dumping the clutch in second at 2500 from a standstill is a bit brutal, but will probably beat the 8.4 seconds. i do not intend to try either.

If you drive in 3rd and put your foot down, you end up being illegal in a hurry. Ditto in 4th - only more illegal. Even small roundabouts are a 3rd gear application if you did not have to stop on entry.

The redline is 5000. Never been there.

Anyone know how the undershelf net fits to the shelf?

Before I got the car I bought a side net and a long thin net (for behind the back seats) from a seller on Ebay. They were narrower nets than what came with my car but with longer lower fixing straps, presumably to allow for the raised boot floor. The part number on the packet is 5L6.867.613.A

I frequently reline diesels, I like driving quickly, overtaking and cornering hard. While the mass of torque is at mid revs their is still plenty of torque and power higher up. Most diesels were once rated at maximum revs, not really studied the resent trend. It really depends on how close the gear ratios are, if they are close then less need to red line but often they are long so redlining can produce the faster progress. One just feels the car. I often put my preferred style for the reason why the majority of my diesels never smoked as they where being driven hard and so did not soot or gum up. Over the years the majority of smoky diesels that I have seen are the ones that are pottering around everywhere at 40mph and probably not changing gears very often. I do not think that redlining does any harm as the limits are set conservatively and power most probably would drop off any way even without the rev limiter. The 140 that I drove was still giving useful acceleration right up to the rev limiter. I drove this car very hard on back B roads.

Got my set of nets out today. Wife thought I was into dubious ladies underwear! Can't think of what to do with them. Might give them to the grandkids for camouflage netting!

If like us you fill the boot past the parcel shelf these are useful to keep thing in place and safe...

Hi Graham,

picture depicts the five net system, if I am right in thinking you will have three nets; one end and one side section missing from that shown.
