How can I tell if I have heated mirrors?

Featured Replies

These may be stupid questions..............

Was heated mirrors an option or do all VRSs have them?

For a long time I've messed about with the electric mirror controls to try and swtich it on but I've never "seen" the mirrors do any form heating. How can you tell?

Is there another way I can find out if it has heated mirrors?

If I do have them, any they don't work, what are the normal fixes?

Thanks

If they are anything like the Octavia, you have to have the mirror switch set in the correct position AND have the heated rear window switch activated. I don't think the mirrors will work on their own

If you have heated mirrors, then your mirror switch has another setting directly opposite the central position between L and R, which has a picture depicting a heating element.

The mirrors work independently of the rear screen heater, and to switch them on simply rotate the mirror adjustment knob all the way around so the the - is point directly opposite the .

They switch on/off with the ignition, so make sure to return the knob to the . position once they are clear.

My octy 2 heated mirrors work regardless of the heated rear screen setting.

On my 07 Octavia vRS the mirror switch has a fourth position - the normal 3 ("off", "adjust left" and "adjust right" and then a fourth position at 9 o'clock on the dial which is a little picture of a mirror with heat lines going through it. If you haven't got that you haven't got them Presume the Fabis of th same era is the same - why would they go to te bothr of making separate switches for such an insignificant part?

If they don't seem to be working on both sides then check the fuse and relay.

If it's only faulty on one side then I'm not sure but could be the element within the glass.

Had this on my last Fabia, an elegance.. the mirrors never worked but it was my first car and I never knew enough to find out why.

As been said, switch the knob to the center position, and leave for few mins, and touch the mirror and it will feel warm !

My octy 2 heated mirrors work regardless of the heated rear screen setting.

I stand corrected - just re-read my manual :(

Must have been a previous car which had to have both working

my control has 3 positions :

1 o clock - mirror movement

3 o clock - little picture of what could be a heated mirror, its a bit vague

5 o clock - mirror movement

So if I turn it to 3 o clock, i'm pretty sure nothing happens. Does this mean that I do not have heated mirrors or are they broken or do I need to press something else too?

Was it definitely an option and not a standard item in 2004?

So my car should have heated mirrors!

I'll check it out tomorrow morning. If it doesn't work then I'll need to find out how to fix it.

Thanks for the advice

Normally with Fabia, Polo and Ibiza, the heaters get left on and burn out the elements or heater tapes stuck to the mirror glasses - if this has happened then you will ned new heated mirror glasses.

Have a look at 9 oclock, do you have something there, you knob should have 4 positions for heated mirrors.

Your heater elements will be burnt out, You're only recourse will be replacement glasses, And that'll rush you about £50.

If you do replace them find some one with VCDS and get them to change the values on the activation timer, It's set to infinite heating from the factory, Hence the reason most have burnt out!

For the heated mirrors to work the switch has to be in the middle position, ie between L & R , and the heated rear window on. They mirrors don't heat on their own.

Not on a Fabia I, I think?

I've had a couple of Fabia I estates. One (an older Comfort) had 3 positions for Heater, R+L and L only (or possibly R only). The other (a more recent Elegance) has3 positions for R, Heater and L. I'd be very surprised if the VRS's didn't have one of these two variants.

yes they do heat on their own, they work totally independantly of the heated rear screen

Noone has pointed out the obvious?! Wait for a cold, damp morning, put electric mirror into middle setting and if the condensation/frost disappears after a few minutes voila they are working ;)

Interesting to hear about the "infinite" setting, how dumb! Must remember never to keep it on the central heated position then...

but someone did point out that if they get warm they are working, so negating the wait for a cold, damp morning

On a Fabia vRS the mirror heating position is at 3 O'Clock. Between the L & R positions for mirror adjustment.

I've checked and I definitely do have fully operational heated mirrors! I just didn't ever notice them ever being on before.

I just turned the swtich from the left mirror setting to the heated position and could hear a relay clicking, then after a minute the mirrors were noticably.

My mirror control has been set to the heated position (3 o clock) about 99.99% of the time that i've owned the car so I'm glad they haven't burnt out.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

When I first got my vrs I adjusted the mirrors and left the switch in the "heat" position and thats where it has stayed for the last 18 months and they havent burnt out

same as me. does this mean that my mirrors have been heated for every single mile I've done over the past two years?

yeah lol, mine have been too. still work fine tho

matt

My switch has also been in the middle position for about 99.9% of the time. I assumed they only heated when the rear window heater was also switched on. Ooops!
