Problem upgrading from Bolero to Columbus

Featured Replies

Yesterday I bought a Columbus sat nav unit for my Superb from OEM Retrofits in Bradford, but sadly when they came to fit it there was a problem getting the steering wheel controls to work. In addition, any changes to the climate control settings weren't displaying on the columbus unit either.

They told me it was likely to be a software problem. Luckily they were very helpful and professional and refunded all my money (and refitted the Bolero unit) - and will try again with another columbus unit when they get one in. Has anyone else encountered a similar problem or know of any solution?

For the superb you need to have a 3T0 unit and also the BAP protocol must be enabled otherwise as you have discovered the steering control dont work. It sounds like they did not code the unit correctly to work with your superb, or they tried a 1Z0 unit which wont work.

Thanks! I'll let them know - and they can check which type of unit it is.

From what I've understood 1Z0 units will 'become' 3T0 units with a firmware update.

Superb needs the BAP support to be coded for instruments and if available the SoundSystem also. SoundSystem setting has to be Volkswagen SoundSystem BAP and not Skoda SoundSystem CAN like one would expect.

I installed Columbus on both my Superb's and after correct coding both of them work fine.

Thanks for this - I've passed the information on, and we'll see what happens with a new unit!

I have now had the columbus fitted (an 3TO unit), and it works perfectly! Thanks for all the advice guys. I'm now selling the original Bolero unit!

Technically yes as he Unit will display in the Hidden menu a 3T0 part number.

Hardware wise though through VCDS etc it still displays as a 1Z0 unit

Hi guys!

Am from Singapore and also an owner of a Superb 2 fitted with a Bolero unit and looking to upgrade to a Columbus unit. I recently purchased a 1Z0 unit by mistake as I wasn't aware that the 3T0 unit is the correct model to use. Understand from the replies here that a firmware upgrade is possible such that the 1Z0 unit can still be used. How do I go about getting the firmware upgrade? Is there anywhere I can download and upgrade the firmware on my own?

Appreciate the assistance!! Thanks so much!!

I upgraded to the columbus, 30 minute job! just put the GPS unit to the left (above the glove box)when you fit the columbus unit.
