TDI Chatter

Featured Replies

Was browsing YouTube and I stumbled across this video.

My link

Now I know in the title he says standard dump valve which TDI's don't have, but it does sound like a diesel.

I have a Green CAI on my car and I ran it once without the ducting on the end (open cone style) of it and I didn't get that noise at all, infact it just sounded like an even louder tractor.

Why does that 130 sound like that?

It really does depend on the filter etc.

The time to get that noise is to let the car just come onto peak boost and then come off the throttle..

The sudden slow of the compressor chatters through the filter which different filters amplify differently...

No Dump valve involved..

Strange, maybe it will be different now that I'm remapped.

Failing that the hybrid turbo might give new noises when I get that.

I get a slight flutter through the exhaust with mine but not like tht

Mines flutter depending how i catch it

It never used to do it till i got the de cat and straight through exhaust system done, it's hard to get it though need to practice a bit i think lol

Toying with a new Air fliter aswell to replace my BMC

my Ibiza will make a noise like that but nothing like as loud or easily. standard exhaust and standard airbox (albeit with a Green panel filter)

If I run my CAI with the ducting off the other end the turbo spooling noise just becomes louder.

Still don't get that odd sneezing style noise.

A friend of mine put a k@n type filter on his golf gti 150 petrol and sounded exactly like that- maybe wrong engine quoted on youtube

I'll give it a try tomorrow whilst watching my boost gauge - I've never heard it sound like that before, maybe Ive just never caught it right. In the video he looks to be going pretty slow and steady - in my furby when I hit boost Im off! difficult to tell from the video though I know
