You said I needed stabilisers

Featured Replies

So I got some... Well, according to my dealers invoice, the part I had fitted was a "stabilizer"...

Just had a new "what we call it" Anti roll bar fitted to the furby and its a lot better the drive now - It now lives up to its model name a bit more, comfort, and the clonking has gone from the front.

One hour at the dealer, nice quick service and I even got a peek at a facelifted Fabia in the showroom... Looked the same to me, but has a not so nice new steering wheel. :nono: Bumper looks OK I suppose. Biggest thing I noticed was the comfort spec is now called "ambiente" to bring it in line with the octavia range. Also read the 2004 JD survey thingy where Skoda did well yet again.

Oh, and I spent

With regards to the rattles my vRS fab has some really bad ones. Do you think its worth taking to the dealer or just paddin it out with some felt etc??

Trim rattles? I say pad it out. A DIY job will always be better than a dealer fix mainly because dealer doesn't give two hoots and a DIY job can take an afternoon of slow, methodical "padding out". This roll of vinyl insulation looks damn good, and weighs about 30kg in all - I doubt I'll use it all, but it should do the job well.

Hobnob - where are the rattles coming from?

I have a few coming from the passenger side door which are the worst, also just to test I put some bassey music on and the whole car rattles, seems to mainly be the doors though

Whats the difference between the new and old Fabia vRS then? I just picked up a '54' reg first reg on the 24/09/04 with 1k on the clock, how can I tell if it's an update or not?

Just to let you know I take great offence at that. If I get a rattle job in its doesnt leave until the rattle is sorted. End Of.

Dont tar us all with the same brush!

Biggest give away (and just about the only one) is the rear lights.

Like this..(2004)

Or like this..(2005)

Or if you look at your chassis number, start at the right hand end, count back 8 digits, this is you year prefix, should be a 5, if so its the new model (2005 MY)

Same as. Don't like letting jobs go out if I haven't fixed what it came in for origionally. Get alot of job satisfaction from fixing stubborn little rattles and things.

Easy Tiger ;)

Maybe Jason is only speaking from experience of dealers he has used.

We all know there's plenty of cowboys out there.

Agree wholeheartedly with what Geoff say's. I really don't believe that our Jase was having a go at all techies...especially the very helpful ones in here..just generalising, and I' sure he'll be along after to agree, when he's finished buying some 'extras' for his new 'Octavia'

I've been consistently fobbed off by Citroen U.K., and main agents, with relation to faults I've had to endure. Still not right, but it's not my car..going back off contract hire in 10 months or sooner if they'll take it without penalties...so I'm not really that bothered.

One things for sure, due to their couln't care less, wev'e got your money now clear off, and oh, let's use the customers as guinea pigs attitude..I won't be getting another one off them. :thumbdwn:

I definitely would get that seen to, mine does not rattle at all, and as you know, I hardly drive this car gently. I even had a creaking drivers seat that went away of its own accord.

maybe worth taking it back then and getting them to sort it, or at least try, who knows they might actually care about their customers unlike minories toyota (grrrrr).

Oh BTW I think I have stolen someone's thread.... sorry

Sorry Ross :o Didn't mean to generalise that statement, and yes it was from personal observations. :)

Although my dealer looks to have done a good job on the ARB, they couldn't help mentioning my speaker wiring being in the driver's footwell, and thats only because they bloody tugged on it, making it fall down and wrap around the throttle!

I guess my rather hurried "DIY is better than mechanics" statement was aimed a lot less at the "dealer's don't care" and more to the fact that all of us would spend a lot more time and effort on our cars, and maybe more materials, given the time of course. :D I'm sure any mechanic could cure a door card rattle in 15 minutes or less, but I would much rather have the involvement of spending perhaps 2 hours per door lovingly wrapping the speaker mount in foam, blolbbing silicone on every popper, lining the edge of the card with this insulation, and generally "packing out". As brilliant a job as a mechanic will do, the loving TLC from a knowledgeable owner IMHO is better.

Oh, just thought, another reason for this viewpoint could be a lack of warranty and a sudden realisation that DIY car work saves a lot of money, if not taking up a lot more time at weekends. :D
