PCP Running Out

I've just opened a letter from Skoda Finance reminding me (not that I needed it) that my PCP has less than six months to run.

I've been planning to buy the car at the end of the contract rather than replacing it with a FL vRS for the following reasons:

1. Having done a few retrofits I have exactly the spec I want other than full leather (and that could easily be sorted with a call to Seat Surgeons)

2. Even after viewing all the FL vRS porn on here I still feel the FL is 'different' rather than 'better'

3. Current car has been 100% reliable and still drives like new after 27k miles

4. If I keep until 2012 or 2013 it would be cool to replace it with the first Octy III vRS on Briskoda

I'm interested in what other members have done in a similar situation and why.

I'm keeping our Mk2 until the Mk3 is ready, when I'll be one of the first in line. For me, besides higher monthly costs, an FL dosnt offer me anything I dont have already

If you're happy with the car and it's reliable, why change for the sake of it. I will probably change mine after 3 years, but I expect to have around 80000 miles on it by then... Even so, if it's running like a dream then and not cost me anything then it may get a years reprieve unless the mark III means I can't resist :-)

That thought had crossed my mind James, but what engine? I was impressed with the 170CR when I drove your Superb at the open day last February, but don't do enough mileage to justify the extra cost of the diesel.

That leaves the 1.8TSI. Has anyone remapped one yet?

I don't suppose I should hold my breath waiting for a Yeti vRS anytime soon.

I had a similar puzzle to you but when i looked at the figures with skoda only wanting £9500 for my 21,000m 2 year old vrs tdi which no one had abused apart from me and the wife it was like this is a no brainer when similar cars were going for 12-13k on autotrader. :p

I'm really wanting a new FL vrs, my heart says go and order one buy my head says wait for the new MkIII. Arrghh!

Just £7460 to buy mine at the end of the contract. As I see it I'll have already paid for the bulk of the depreciation and it should still be worth enough in two years time to be my deposit on a new car.

As skodafab says, a no brainer really, but always interesting to see what others think.

Had the same letter yesterday for SWMBO's vRS, she has had enough of a bright blue hot(ish) hatch and wants something a little more discreet and practical seeing as we now have the little nipper around.

Looks like a Yeti 4x4 Elegance CR140 next time round, fantastic car. Seeing as the vRS is well specced, in excellent condition and has only done 19k miles I am hoping the monthly repayments won't change too much next time round.

My L&K is three years old a month later than the vRS and I plan to replace it with a Superb Combi, I had better go and make a start on that piggy bank!

I'll have a similar sort of decision to make come May/June this year as my PCP deal comes to an end.

I have been considering a FL vRS CR Combi as a direct replacement , but apart from the obvious front end and interior revisions, has any suspension / chassis changes taken place?

Just wondered, as for me prossibly the worst aspect of my car is the ride, which, whilst not being anywhere near as bad as the Leon FR, is constantly fidgety with a lack of compliance. In many ways I'd like a L&K 170CR, but Skoda has yet to listen.

Quite like the Superb Combi, but I feel I'd have to become an antiques dealer to justify it. And I'd be very happy in a BMW 330d Touring, only my bank manager probably wouldn't. And before anyone says a Yeti, the wife has one of those coming in a few weeks time.

PCP companies will always set the balloon payment deliberately low so, unless you've been really careless and the car is a shed, you are much better off buying it outright evem of you sell it on straight away. In other words, never hand a PCP car back unless you're desperate. I got enough in part-ex on my last car to more than cover the balloon payment, even with 35,000 miles over at the end of the contract.

I reckon a remapped 1.8TSI Yeti would be very rapid indeed. Am I right in thinking it can be mapped up to about 210-220bhp?

It's based on the Octavia chassis plus it has the new all wheel drive haldex system.

Plus Yetis are quite good on PCP because they have strong residuals.

If you want to have a play with a FL vRS and a Yeti without pressure and you're in my neck of the woods by all means pop in, I've got a black FL vRS in the showroom and a Yeti Elegance outside.
