GSM2 to GSM3

Featured Replies

Hi guys

do any of you know what is involved in upgrading the GSM2 kit to the GSM3 kit aftermarket?

Thanks

Greg.

I can't say anything about after market, but when I ordered my TSi1.8 with DSG7, I wanted to have the Bluetooth Premium GSMIII (UHV+rSAP) combined with 3-Spoke Multifunc. Leather Steering Wheel with pedals for DSG. During the order it appeared to be a compatibility problem. Initially my dealer placed an order for the BT GSMIII as PT2 (stands for code in a the accessories catalogue) together with the 3-Spoke Str. Wheel as PLG. Mladá Boleslav replied that both are not compatible without advising replacement. I almost ended up ordering 4-spoke Str. Wheel without pedals for DSG, but with Mr.Google help I learned that there was a compatible 3-Spoke Multifunc. Leather Steering Wheel with pedals for DSG and that its catalogue's code stands for PLD. So, as advice before switching from GSM2 to GSM3 check out you vehicle's units compatibility.

What about the other way, I want to go from GSM3 to GSM2 ?

 could we not swap??

In theory, it's possible to go from GSM2 to GSM3 and vice versa.

From what I can tell, to go from GSM3 to GSM2 should be fairly straightforward. From looking at the connectors, I think you should be able to plug in the GSM2 module in place of the GSM3 one, and recode with VCDS.

To go the other way, then you'd have to add the necessary GSM aerial and cabling, as the GSM3 module needs an external aerial to work. This would likely be more difficult.

Personally, I've considered going from GSM3 -> GSM2 due to the lack of rSAP support from many manufacturers. On the plus side though, I got an e-mail from Apple today concerning the bug that I logged over rSAP support for the iPhone. It very much looks like they are working on it. Maybe we will see support in iPhone OS 4.x.
