Now that's what General Jack D. Ripper (Dr Stangelove) would have called "Purity of Essence".

It's not bad... seems like they're a bit late to the party though?

Now ,I don't as a rule like French aaaaaanything , let alone cars -especially after their dealings in Coventry .But the Citroen olde wolrde pump up job -got to take my hat of to that .Way back in the early 80's I was out in what was called Rhodesia to those not suntanned, Zimbabwe to those who'd bee out of doors too long

Me & my lads ( those who'd been brought up in that country would call them boys, but I have more respect for them than that) wereexpert wheel changers -we reckoned we kept the garage going in puncture repairs with a thorn a day ( thorns were the size of 3" nails). We got to the stage of carrying two spares ,simply because we needed them

This day , we were changing tyres .So also was a Cirtoen owner ,on his own .We'd hardly got the nuts off when he'd wheeled his tyre to the fitter .And not because he was fast -but because he'd not had to jack up his car .

I have just seen an article about Citroen re-inventing the 2CV. AutoExpress - Reborn Citroen 2CV is ready

I love one of the comments made about it:

2CV Not

Does the new 2CV have an independent chassis NO .

Does it have bolt on panels for ease of replacement NO.

Does it have a horizontally opposed engine NO

Does it have an air cooled engine NO

Does it have seats that come out quickly for picnic's NO.

Does it have in-board brakes NO

Does it have 5 doors NO

Does it have a hand brake on the FRONT wheels NO

Does it have a full rag top NO

Does it have a crazy gear change NO

Does it have wonderful suspension NO

Does it have 2 cylinders NO

IT IS A 2CV NO errr well NO

But it does have a very nice badge!!.

I'll bet that it also doesn't have a 2 Fiscal Horsepower engine (where the 2CV name originally came from)!

To be added:

Does it have a crank start option? NO (even my Citroën GS 1972 came with a crank handle that also served as wheel wrench, or maybe the other way round :) )

Does it have a manual crank for the wipers? NO (a necessity since they were driven by the speedo wire)

The original DS is a fantasic thing, especially the Chapron convertable. I have a odd love of old french cars. Don;t like that first car and he DS look alike is too much of a pastiche for me and doubt if it will be anywhere near as revolutionary as the original. If only that car had the planned flat six instead of the wheezy old four that began life in the Traction Avant.

I would like a C6 though when the prices come down a bit more: would make a lovely cruiser and can take advantage of some poor sod who paid £37K!

I think the LED lights are only standard on the top model , and optional on the others. The top model is powered by the same engine as the MINI Cooper S and is expected to cost around £19K , Ive been reading about it today. I like it ., BTW.

Whilst Googling for a pic of an old DS, I came acrosss what Citroen should have made if they wanted a retro look.

They are from this forum Here  B)

I wonder if they are now going to remake the 2CV after the DS.

Now I like that.. Didn't seem to go down too well on that forum though.

My best mate works for a Citroen dealership, and he had to go down to Rockingham last Friday to be introduced and test drive it.

He's not easily pleased, and is generally critical of the Citroen range, especially the atrocoius build quality of the new Berlingo.

However, he was very suprised just how good it was in terms of driveabilty, looks and build quality.
