Light dimmer switch

Featured Replies

I need to get to the loom at the back of the dash-light dimming switch, as part of my w8 fit. I know how to remove the main headlight switch, but as yet have not removed much more from that area.

Have removed the fusebox cover, and the cover above it, but that does not seem to give me any real access from the side. I noticed the main fuse assembly was held in with 2 screws, but I am skeptical that undoing those will help - givem the mass of wires behind it, I can't imagine it being very "moveable".

Any hints most welcome.

Thanks,

Matt

You will have no problem removing the 2 screws as i have had mine out a few times.

I have my W8 light ready to fit (if i get time).Mine is from a Superb so green lights.

The easiest way is to drop the bottom dash panel down. From memory, there are a couple of screws behind the fuse box cover, one behind the light switch and maybe a couple elsewhere on the panel. Once they're out, you can drop it down and gain access to the loom behind the dimmer.

Off topic i know, but what colour is the light - is it charcoal as per the dark vrs headlining, or the light grey?

What exactly are you trying to dim? the LED's?

LED's need a constant power supply and to my knowledge are not dimmable.

Light grey as they don't do a charcoal version.

There is a dimmer wheel for the Dash lights on My Mk2 Octavia which dims the lights.

Don't know how it works just imagine it still keeps the constant power source just less of it.

I just wanted to source a +12v feed for the LEDs from the dimmer switch. Essentially the so that when the dash lights of the car are on the LEDs are on too. I would be taking the non-dimmed feed however.

I assumed the 12+ feed to the dimmer switch seemed a suitable place get this from.

You could easily take it from the side light wire on the back of the light switch (that's what i did when i did this mod on my MKI Octavia)

That would certainly be easier to get to, so I might do that.

I decided to run a ground up my lights too, so I should be able to track down the ground on the back of the switch too.
