Festival Of Speed

Featured Replies

I'm quite interested in going to this. IIRC its 11-13 July @ Goodwood. Looks like there are some tasty bits of machinery going to be there:

Who

Wow!!!!!

Why Saturday, Jon?

It clashes with the first Briskoda national meet where

Mellowyellow will drive his recently Jabba'd Octavia vRS

No comparison ;)

Does it now! Well that can't be good, okay team meeting...

I've been on all days over the years - the sunday is full of people & the cars are just as good, you just pay more & see less

Funny - I've been a regular for year now too, and my thoughts on the Saturday are somewhat different!

No, this year I'm up for the Revival Meeting in September.

For the Festival, I'd say the Friday or the Sunday - depending on your preferences. Is it the cars or the noise?

For cars - best on Friday, you will have the best opportunity to get up real close (and I mean really close), as it is the most relaxed day in the paddock.

For noise - on the Sunday there are no tickets sold at the gates, so slightly smaller attendance than on Saturday (still very crowded, mind you) and with all the timed action reaching its peak. Also, most stars will be there on Sunday.

Best cheap "seats" in the house - way up the hill. You will miss any potential F1 hooliganism on the main straight (the donuts and all the other stuff Bernie doesn't want them to do at a GP track), but the acceleration pull up to and into the final corner is an awesome sight/sound/smell - flat out for some cars, certainly for current F1 machinery.

Oh, Jon's is making me feel really sorry about missing this one! :(

Things I would not like to miss:

- the Chaparrals!!

- the W196 Streamliner!

- the Shadow CanAm car!

- the high-aerofoil Lotus 49B!

- Nino Vaccarella in the 312PB!

- the Honda RA300

- the Tyrrell 001

- the Penske Mercedes pushrod car

- the Audi quattro S2, 205 and Celica Group B cars

- the Toyota GT-One

- the Ferrari and Porsche CanAm cars

- the seventies Le Mans cars

- the Ferrari 512S

- Peter Hardman...

Other things:

- where's Piquet on the list? He was supposed to drive one of my all-time favourites, the Brabham-BMW BT52 (I was this close from changing plans just for this one!)

- Alonso won't show, or so I've heard, only McNish at Renault for the weekend

- Montoya will make Saturday worthwile, as he won't "drive" the Williams but thrash it

- will already see lots and lots of Cobras at the Revival...

Would love to go to this. Have missed it for the last 2 years for various reasons and this year I'm on holiday!! :(

Maybe next year!

It's certainly worth going for the weekend if you can make all 3 days as the atmosphere is amazing.

Been thinking about going this year primarily to see the soap box race.

Anybody know when this is?

Seen the last 2 years events on the goggle box and it looks like a good day out.

Cheers.

Adrian.

OK, if the national meet is on the Saturday, I'll attend that, and just make do with going to Goodwood on the Friday and the Sunday :D Someone I know gave me a 3 day pass last night so its gonna be a busy weekend!

It's gonna be a very long way between the two, as well !! :drive:

Its only mileage. When you get to 90k in 20 months, mileage ceases to be relevant :D

Your dealer must be sick of the sight of your car - that's a service every 10 weeks or so ... I'm only running at just under half of this :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Is anyone still up for this.
