Mrs had a bump!

Featured Replies

Hi Guys

Bit of advise please. Whilst on the way to work on friday my wife bumped a car in the rear. Very slow only a couple of scratches on the other car (renault something or other) she of course gave her details to the other lady and told her to give her a call about any damage caused. Yesterday the lady called and said that she had taken it to someone and they had said that the metal inside the boot may have been bent! I expressed surprise at this as isn't the front of a car generaly weaker than the rear? if the impact was strong enough to bend metal in the back of her car wouldn't our Octavia have something to show for it? Also my wife has said the other car may have went to pull out and then stopped( Its a turning off a side road on to the A53 so when theirs a gap in the traffic you have to commit) The other party have said they are going to take the car to Renault body shop for confirmation.

How is the best way to deal with this? should we go through our insurance company so they can look into the matter further? I'm just a bit worried as you here about people doing this sort of thing on busy junctions to get money.

Thanks Tom

I was backed into whilst stationery and sat in the car. The other guy ended up paying for about a grand's worth of damage and he wasn't doing above 10mph.

Bumper

Slam panel

Radiator...the list went on !

Thanks gents you confiming what i thought

Yeah, to go from a couple of scratches to "damage" to me squeals a case of someone trying to get something for nothing! A respray would be a couple of hundred at very most, and do not expect to pay any more. Did you get any photos at the scene as evidence?

If you have photographs then i'd wait for the renault answer and if unhappy then tell her you're going via your insurance.

The first person may have told her over the phone, "no quote because until we see it we can't see if there is any rear damage". She may have interpreted it differently then.

Problem is that your insurance may well go up by more than £1k over 5 years, I'd give her until the end of the week to have the details back from renault.

Also get pics of your car before you do anything to repair it.

Defo get the insurance company on it. May even be someone trying to some easy money in a devious way. And good advice for anyone else in a similar situation get details and pictures of the scene and damage to the involved car/cars. Hope it's sorted soon.

Hi Guys

No Photos of other car and No Damage to mine at all. When the woman calls next time we will tell her that we are going to go down the insurance route and see what she comes up with.

I ran into the back of someone half asleep on my way back from work early one morning after a night shift. Hit them at a reasonable speed. My ford focus was completely fine, just a tiny scratch on the bumper. The Volvo S40 on the other hand needed a new rear bumper and the boot wouldnt close

Swmbo ( and children )said that it was no more than a "role" into the other car, i guess we will have to wait and see. We have a mechanic that we trust completely if we don't involve the insurance company we will get a second opinion off him.

Renault NCAP 5 they fold like paper.

I hit a Nova once in my Polo Coupe. Cracked the Nova chassis straight down the middle. Was at 40, with the other stationary on slippy summer roads after a down pour and licence held for 3 months.
