Faulty reading of outer (ambient) temperature

Featured Replies

Recently my Fabia's electronic control board reads faulty outer(ambient) temperatures (with the temperature sensor placed in the engine compartment under the front left light ).The error is with 5-6 degrees Celsius above the real temperature outside.I do not know wheather the temp. sensor is faulty or it is the controll board. Pls. help with your advise - for replacing the temp. sensor or checking the electronic device function?Thank you in advance..

VAGCOM code scan to determine which is at fault, but most likely the sensor will be the problem.

...and the good news is that if it IS the sensor, it's pretty easy to replace, even with the bumper still in place I think. If I remember rightly, the sensor just clips into the bumper, and there's a detachable socket for the wiring.

Depending on how easy and/or cheap it is to get a scan done, it may be easiest just to buy a new sensor and fit it to see if it cures the problem.

The sensor costs 30 usd here(too expensive)- I tried to replace it but I had problem to pull out the thermometer's wire from its plastic socket (no wonder with my 7 years old car) .The socket is indicated as made for VW cars- If I turn the wire or the socket with pliers they may break. May be I have to soak and clean them with petroleum to make the unscrewin easier. If you got any experience in unplugging such sockets pls. let me know .Thank you for your help. What is a VAGCOM code scan? Is it a test carried out in the SKODA car services? I am grateful.
