HFS What are they Doing,

cheers,

yea I went in with my own Motul 5.1, and a Genuine CV joint from somewhere lol.

I wanted them do do the cv joint and the fluid change as as far as I am aware it has never been done since new even tho its got FSSH till this last service. I have done this one, Ive done oil and filter change and plugs cleaned the PX air filter(car runs nicer now) and checked everything! also cleaned up the suspension completely and a few new bits n bobs. along with the rear brakes.

The only things left on the service was the CV boot that was broken and a brake fluid change. seen as the boot was broke and I had about 3-5 degrees of rotation on the hub and none on the drive shaft so I changed it for a genuine one as it was a cheap replacement dont 2 years ago due to me not knowing the sauce of the ticking from the brake discs.

Why they dont have the proper bleeders I dont know but how much would it cost do you think to have it done somewher that has the kit?

Has anyone got any links or a proper way of doing a complete system bleed format to do it?

cheers,

billy

Haynes manual does spell it out quite nicely so you could always buy a copy, one thing is it list two different orders for bleeding the brakes depending on the ABS module that is fitted, I don't have the manual to hand at the moment though. The clutch should be bleed from nipple on the slave cylinder after the brakes have all been done (which is a pain to reach).

There's a garage in Cathays I used to use, they were good but not the cheapest. I can PM you the details if you want.

Can anyone help me?

What system is in the vRS? is it:

MK20 IE

or

MK60

they have a different way of bleeding and I want the correct one to get this done properly,

billy

Ive read the 2 man basic method in Haynes and already know why I have crap feel. He is not using a pipe and a bottle so the lad in the car is pumping the brakes, then holding it on and the mech is opening the lock and the fluid is spurting out then it stops and he then seals it. that is where the air is getting in imo. aswell as letting the fluid go on my rims. granted he cleaned them up with spray and rags. I recon I could do a better job on my own with the GF in the drivers seat.

I am going to try them again in the morning and if no change take it to somewhere that will be able to do it all correctly.

HINT

if you have working brakes then dont get them changed even if the fluid is old.

I can see why you feel that way tbh,I suppose the moral is,ask them first if they're savvy with this cars system, then again,I'm sure they'd say yes whatver,to get the business.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but had you read the haynes manual 1st,you know to ask "have you got a pressure bleed kit,do you know about the clutch etc".

Well at least you,(& thanks to your misfortune, others reading this) might be better prepared for the future.

I was going to do my own with an eezee bleed kit,but if Skoda quote me under £100 all in,I get them to do it.It sounds like a balls ache & if you cods it up,you'll be worse than when you started & feeling like you do now.

Anyone had this done as a standalone job? How much from Skoda?

and as to what type abs you have,I don't know mine either,it looked like none of the 4 in the Haynes manual.

It did have a part number on it tho'.I wrote it down but have since lost it,it's not too hard to see with a torch & you can call the numbers/digits out to your GF to write down, then post it on here, someone might be able to tell you

They shouldnt really be bleeding the brakes unless with a pressure bleeder, it can and has caused master cylinders to fail

1J2 614 105 D is the PN on my MC. its the black round thing on the bulkhead?

Ally,

That is why I started this when I saw them using the brakes. If the MC is damaged would I be able to tel now?

Also when I asked if they had a pressure bleeder the answer was no the mechs dont like them.

should I even bother going back to them or just go lookin for a place that can do it correctly?

DONT use A and A cardiff for anything other than Wheels and Geo. they are not bad at mech stuff but not Brakes. all being well I wont need to use them for anything other than wheels.

The ABS module in my car wasn't exactly the same as any one of the ones in the haynes manual in shape but once I looked at the connections and pipe coming out as well as the shape of the electrical connection it was obvious, unfortunately I can't remember which one it is and mines not a vrs so may well be different.

lol @ mechs dont like them, get it bled out properly and it should be ok as usually if its been damaged you wont have any kind of pedal, dont go back to them, find a local vag specialist and explain to them whats happened

I wouldn't go back there either, except to ask for my money back. And a refund :giggle:

cheers Alli

star, looks like Ill be creepin round cardiff wi the mobile net finding places that can do it. I would give them another chance but

1 I am worried they F**k it up properly

2 they dont have the tools like I Assumed they would being a large garage and all that. (Assumption is the Mother of all F**KUPS)

looks like ill bite the bullet and get it done correctly, Even so Ive still saved some dosh doing most of the work myself and the service. just need to see if Dave has found anything out yet on resetting my service to Longlife.

cheers everyone again,

billy

I think they would just laugh at me.

you sound like me,don't like confrontation much.

Just forget it then, put it down to experience

I just know that I hate some damn TOFF coming int my det and telling me how to operate it. I have told many and officer to F off as they are not trained on the kit and I am. so I dont like telling a mech how to bleed brakes when he is the qualified one, not me.

plus they wont give me anything back as I could take it to them to sort and didnt need to go somewhere else. so screw them, Ill just save myself the hassle of poss not having a car for a week when they would surely bugger it up good and proper if I went back there lol.

Its not the same company now as it was when I first used them neither, they have been taken over by first stop iirc, before it was just AandA.

Hi Billy. you can safely bleed the brakes using an easybleed kit and the pedal, you just have to make sure the pedal doesn't go down more than half way, as that is where there is likely to be scoring on the master cylinder that causes the seals to turn out!! I did mine by myself but never got round to bleeding the clutch so think I might have a bit of air still as my brakes (312mm oem disks and redstuff pads) are still not as sharp as SWMBO's passat (288's).

I though there were a couple of VAG specialists around South Wales. I think there is one in Bridgend somewhere?

Edit:

this one is in Barry http://www.welshvw.com/about.aspx

these are the guys in Bridgend http://www.audivwbridgend.co.uk/#/contact-us/4526253803 (have seen their little Felicia running round with the decals all over it :D)

The guy I use (Barry) for stuff I don't want to try myself is ADAR in Tondu Enterprise Centre.

cheers marra,

ill give them a look, its horrible, I loved the feel of mine before as it was there and all you needed to do was touch the pedal and you could feel the bite, I have had a few instances tho on brawdy airfield were I just wanted to see how fast I could go I had the brakes feel nice and hard then all of a sudden sink right down under hard braking, then after a while they were ok,

now tho it feels proper crap and there is no feel there really.

[multiple censored] chimps! I'd be looking for a full refund for the brake work, including the cost of the brake fluid, with that level of incompetence!

I could also recommend a few places in Newport

pm me if you want Babs

I am after anywhere

Drake Auto's in Newport, I'd recommend without any doubt. It's an old-skool looking place, but the guys know their stuff, only people aside from Awesome and my Dad who I'd let work on my car!

Fact ne mind Its all sorted cheers,

Taking it to http://www.welshvw.com/about.aspx

£20+vat for the full lot and they have the machines to do it. also he sounded very helpful and they are going to get me the super DOT 4 that Vag use or some 5.1.

might add a tad on with the super but for that price I dont mind as I was expecting £40+ If there place looks good Ill be going there again. Its a shame that Streetwise are in bristol. I liked that place.
