Flickering dash illumination

Featured Replies

The illumnation on my 2001 Fabia dash seems to intermittantly flicker in time with the intermittant wipe function! Has anyone else had this problem? I'm thinking it might be the wiper motor on it's way out as my car has a new battery as of today!

had the same thing happen to me tonight , and yes it was when the intermittent wipe was on

Any ideas?

I have an 02 my

I have no idea if my intermitant wipers were on but its happened to me a few times over the past few weeks, maybe its the cold?

I thought I was going mad seeing things at first till I watched the dash do it at some traffic lights. Any ideas anyone. One thought is the wiper spindles getting a bit stiff and needing lubrication. This might be making the motor work extra hard?

OMG!! YES YES YES lol mine does this and i posted about it just before christmas lol if anyone knows the cause I will perform any sexual favor they desire

Incidentally it seems to double swipe when it does this, as in it swipes twice without waiting... does this regardless of lights being on, but if they are it causes a flicker

I don't think its drain related, as the headlights don't dip, stereo doesn't stop... has to be something else but at least I don't feel all alone now!

My car has the dash lights flicker occasionally, and I think it is down to a faulty Steering Angle Sensor causing the power steering to twitch and draw a lot of power...... My car is showing a fault code on the Steering Angle Sensor, so maybe worth getting your car's diagnostic codes read.

In my case, done and done. Power steering seems fine... had 2 scans since both clear too. It appears to be directly related to the intermittent wiper setting

I think this will be related to the variable brightness potentiometer for dash lights. It's a variable resistor, so any excess current drawn by the wipers will give a greater voltage drop across the dash light control. The only common components shared between wipers and lights, is the ignition barrel and the voltage control unit.

I would try bridging the dash light dial to give full brightness.

my airbag light is on too , its been on since i bought it

will get it tested to found what is required

:wonder:

must admit my dimmer switch is playing up

gonna get this checked out too

When you say bridging mate, do you mean removing the panel, then manually wiring out the potentiometer?

Only the little panel with the headlight control and the dimmer switch. You need to set the headlight control to sidelights, and then push the control IN. If you're lucky you will then be able to pull the whole thing out, but otherwise you may need to give it a bit of help as shown:

Yup, you can bypass the variable illumination to test it, or just leave it like that. Mine is always at max brightness anyway.

Mine too :) will have a look over the weekend  Bit strange if it causes the double swipe on mine too, but who knows stranger things have happened

Is there just 2 cables to join?

so what is the end of the story? mine does the same thing. but i dont think it is light potentiometer as it controls the brightness over all devices in the car and it is only the dash which is flickering.

someone told me that voltage regualtor inside dashboard needs to be changed. but i am not sure about that as i undestand that stuff and it is only an illuminaton problem of the dashboard, not the whole unit shut off.

anyone?
