Apex Lowering Springs

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just bought some Apex springs for peanuts and thought id give them a go. there 3 months old and drop the car about 30mm

Only thing is that my cars done 90k now and as far as im away the shocks are original. do you think the lower springs are just going to kill the original shocks?

Any comments welcome :)

Were they around £21? peanuts :giggle:

They should be OK with the stock dampers, although I got a new set when my car was lowered after 80k - I didn't reckon they had much more life in them, and it would have been a lot of extra labour to fit new shocks at a different time to the new springs...

what do you think the labour costs would be for just fitting the springs? cheers for the reply

I had Apex springs on my Fabia with standard dampers, a tad bouncy. :(

Autodata reckons 2 hours for the lot, assuming you don't get charged twice for spring and shock! So it depends on your garage's rates, but it's anywhere from GBP70 to GBP200 extra if you get the work done twice. If you also feel you want to get the car aligned after the work's done, then that's something else you'd pay twice for - although it's probably not essential, as you're not removing anything that's adjustable relative to the chassis AFAIK...

Obviously the car looked better, and they were slightly stiffer, but compared to the KW springs i had removed, to fit the Apex ones, i wouldn't buy again without dampers.

In all fairness, my dampers had done a good few miles too.

Any excuse to post this:

...which shows you what your car will look like with that sort of drop.

i dont really need it to be super stiff, its really just a cheap way of doing it now, iv never lowerd a car before so i am very much a nooby to this. il give it a try and see how i get on, if i fail then il failed in the cheapest way possible. thanks for the comments anyway, much apprieciated, il keep you posted on howt things go

Here's mine with them fitted too.

LittleJohnny that looks sweet mate, im having my 16" OEM rims coated gloss black on tuesday so i fancied having the springs put on ASAP so i can get a nice pic of it, just bought myself a Sturt brace 2 so wer going pretty well at the mo, good times

Not quite gloss black, but here's my previous wheels with the Apex springs.

They'd just been fitted in this pic, so not settled.

Think the original wheels look loads better than the 17" octy spiders. i was the other way round at first but the original 16's in black look sweet, cheers mate

Just fancied a change, and the 16" Spiders are quite rare, so nice to be different. :)

does anyone have the full kit?

not heard anyone with the full kit.

I was planning on getting the shocks before mine was vandalised/written off but never got round to it.
