I weighed them - 25lbs exactly. A pound more than the web had led me to believe, but not to worry.

I put our wooden robot Ken in charge of them while I figured out what I could do with the center caps...

th_119.jpg

Experimenting with a Skoda Zenith center (miles too small)...

th_113.jpg

And here is the problem...

th_116.jpgth_114.jpg

68mm front and 54-55mm retaining ring. I can't find anything other than the Audi 4B0 601 170A part that I got with them that'll fit. Ideally I'd like to get red BBS centres in them, but there's no straight fit. You can get a 68mm BBS centre in red, but the rear clip dimensions are different as they're to fit a BMW. I won't rule out modifying a set to fit somehow. Another option, if there are any which would work would be Skoda ones. Any ideas on this?

Yeah, if you can check it, that would be good. Pretty sure it won't be the same though. These just seem to be a really awkward fit.

Brainwave - just realised the same 4B0 601 170A cap fits a couple of other Audi wheel designs too, one of which (the 8p0 601 025) and 19" version (BBS RS 861) you see a lot on Golfs. I could have sworn I saw a golf with these on and VW caps.

Found it... th_DSC00655Medium.jpg

I need to find out how he's done that.

As an aside, any of you love RS 861s?...

I very nearly bought some a few months ago but they're just outrageously heavy unfortunately.

Got 1 out and its the size you stated ish , 70mm /58mm , it has the crome outer and the audi roundels in the centre , theyre on pins tho so they could br removed to fit stick on bbs badges .

pretty sure theyre on ebay . you could buy a set to modify nick

Cheers. I did think about prising the fronts off like you say and getting Ebay special BBS stick ons, but as far as I can make out, the main part of the centre (under the flashy outer bit with the Audi logo) is slightly domed, so, I'm not sure if it'd work.

Maybe i thought that but what you need is really the outer ring and the inner with the spring , all you would need to do is cut out the centre leaving say 3 mm an cut some circles from a plastic sheet mabe , glue em in and cover , blue peter stuff

How big are the skoda ones on the Vega or Pegasus alloys?

  • Author

Vega are huuuuge (covers bolts). Will get the parts guy at the dealer to show me all of them. :)

Just looked at the 1 have , the chrome ring slips off .that'll help the modding nick

Hmm, I couldn't separate the chrome ring when I tried earlier. Is your cap a 4B0 601 170A?

I have a 4B0 601 170A sitting on my desk (don't ask) and the chrome ring comes off.

BUT the cap measures: 69mm front and 54mm retaining ring.

Edit just looked at your picture of where you measured it.

See my edit i didn't measure the wire the first time, my measurements are also done with a vernier so a little more accurate than a ruler, so they look to be the same
