Engine problems Yeti 1.2 TSI

Just as general thought, aimed at no one in particular:

I was always told, never to drink on an empty head.

Now, I appreciate that anyone in this unfortunate cranial situation, if they can understand it, through the miasma of confusion , which is a substitute for the normal synaptic activity, more common in the aforesaid region, may find that statement offensive.

If this applies to you, I obviously apologise. :x

I'll get my coat.............before I go

On topic [optional] I still think there is a larger problem than is being admitted with some of the issues described

Goodnight Vienna

Here in Holland there are several problems with new Yeti models with 1.2 TSI engine.

Any owners familiar with this issue? If so, what problems do you have?

I'm in Spain and we have the 1.2 TSi Yeti purchased in Nov 2014 managed to do just over 1,600Kms with no problems the software update mentioned would the dealer notify customers if anything like software updates were required

This is revealing:

Stick in Skoda Yeti and then compare the results with cars that most people would consider as 'averagely reliable' such as a Ford Focus or Kuga or a Nissan Qashqai.

The Yeti doesn't even get into the Top 100! Interestingly the Mazda MX5 comes in 9th. I owned one for 5 years and had one warranty claim (the cassette player broke). Compare that to the ~19 claims I've had with the Yeti and I think this Reliability Index is not far off the mark...

You make a very valid point there.  The index you refer to is based on hard fact, and not just opinion.  I wonder where all the problems (primarily engine, I see) are coming from - there's no breakdown between models/engines/years.  Very glad I went for the 5 year warranty, though you'd hope that (as is usually the case with any new model) the problems arose primarily with the earlier vehicles, later vehicles becoming appropriately modified.

And that's why things such as forum's, JD Power surveys etc should be used as a very minor reference only with regard to reliability, or anything else for that matter.

They do serve a purpose and some advice over the years on forums has been brilliant, but you need to know what is valid and what is b****cks. Some reply's on here (and other forums) over the years regarding technical advice have been, quite frankly, frightening. People just post things that they have no idea of. Probably heard it down the pub.

Yes I do understand what you are saying. I have a good friend who slated the reliability of his Astra. Bought from new he had it 4 years and never had a problem during the warranty period. In the last year it cost him about £200 to get a sensor fault diagnosed and repaired and he said it was an unreliable car :notme: .

But!! it is equally a valid point to expect a new car bought for thousands of pounds to be reliable.

Until my recent early retirement I worked as a Mechanical Engineer for one of the worlds biggest manufacturing companies. It is not acceptable to expect a certain amount of problems just because the car is under warranty. If the manufacturing industry thought like that there would not be any. The goal is to achieve zero defects. Yes, that is very difficult (impossible) to achieve, but if you start accepting certain defects as "the norm" where does it end? Manufacturing defects are unacceptable, as is poor quality control.

Had the same issue on my 62 plate 1.2. The whole turbo had to be replaced as the actuator set up is almost impossible away from the factory. (If replaced on its own) have an aftermarket warranty and claimed on that paying the £100 excess. £1256 was the final bill. 34000 on the clock when it failed in December.

Actuators were supposedly on back order, availability sometime a long time away as a member in the Fabia section was told for one on his 1.2TSI Fabia MK2.

A Edinburgh dealership got him one in a couple of weeks, it is fitted and working.

Who ever said setting up is almost impossible away from the factory was either not a Qualified VW Group Technician or at it, & milking the Warranty Claim.

The repair was done by an independent garage, local Skoda dealer wasn’t interested as it was so close to Christmas but eventually did supply the spares. The set up issue first came up from a turbo specialist who the independent contacted to check the codes with. This was verified by the parts department at DM Kieth. Didn’t cost me any more, only 2.6 hours labour for the whole job. Did have to wait for the modified oil feed pipe though. That took a couple of weeks to arrive.

Cheers AwaoffSKI,

After the diagnostic test they will give me what is required to sort problem. As you say I understand the warranty would be

for everything possible which the dealers would cash in on.This way I hope it is a partial remedy.

Yeti 1.2tsi problem sorted by Ingram Motors Ayr. Cost me £476. I am still going to try Skoda and VW. I do feel the 1.2tsi engine

is not fit for purpose and with the turbo/actuator problemn just waiting to happen at any time any age they should come good.

Ok Awaoffski and Nemutai. thanks for your input.

My ASR and stability control warning lights come up very often along with a severe loss of power.  If I turn the engine off/on, the power is back and the light goes out.

This happens everytime I use the car. Sometimes after 1 minute, sometimes after 10 minutes or even 50.   When I'm doing low speeds searching for a parking spot, it happens instantly.

1.2 TSI from 2010

Any ideas?  thanks

Best get the ABS, Traction control checked out,  ABS Module / Sensors, or ECU / Earths connections.

So visit a VW Specialist and fault codes read if there are any and a diagnosis done.   It does not sound like an Engine Fault but a Traction Control (Anti Slip Regulator) one.

It is a safety critical issue, best not put off getting it checked.

I made a mistake. The error message that appears is "FAULT: ESP".  But both the ASR light and tyre light up and stay like that until I shutdown the car.    engine power comes back imediatelly after starting the car up again.

Does the above suggestion still applies ?
